I need to get in touch with people from non-US gun liberal countries. Also, people from Vermont.

So I was thinking:

Switzerland
Estonia
Latvia
Philippines?
What more?

You may know me from Claire Wolfe's boards. I run the webzine EuroHacker, which is at http://eurohacker.mine.nu

How about your neighbors, the Finns? Aren't there some Norwegians roaming about here as well? Probably pining for the fjords no doubt.

euro, welcome to THR, btw. :)

Finns are more macho, yes. They don't have a stupid ban on scary rifles. You can also buy mufflers there without a license.

Then again, the Finns have had to fight for their independence in recent history.

Only in the US does liberal mean socialist :)

From the website:
Q. What's your "Mission Statement?"
A. EuroHacker is a magazine intent on fighting the oppression of guns, drugs, and hookers while publishing cool hacks on a monthly basis.

So I kind of wonder what sort of information eurohacker is looking for ...

Not pure information. Any fool can find that with Google.

What "guns, drugs, hookers" means is that those are the issues we're focussed on. We are still interested in other libertarian-style issues, such as freedom of travel and speech and whatnot. We just see those 3 as the most pertinent to us, since the editor lives in a country where they are illegal/restricted :)

What I would like is an article written by someone there about what it's like. Day-to-day stuff with pics of people carrying arms. All done kind in a story type of style with some bite to it.

We don't adhere to the old-school of journalism, no, we are gonzo journalists (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gonzo_journalism) :D We want articles with attitudes.

Gawd, I sound like some stupid hippie stoner...

Central to gonzo journalism is the notion that journalism can be more truthful without strict observance of traditional rules of factual reportage. The best work in the genre is characterized by a novelistic twist added to reportage, with usual standards of accuracy subordinated to catching the mood of a place or event.

I am not speaking for everyone obviously, but I am sure many here are not into comparisons of legalizations of guns to be on par with illicit mind altering drugs or prostitution.

Why not?

I think it's damn funny every time someone calls me a Fed :)

People tell me no Swedish teenager could possibly be that knowledgeable about obscure guns laws, well-versed in American slang or, for that matter, take an interest in the things for which I have a predilection :banghead:

How do I make people trust me?

Welcome, Eurohacker.

Oh, btw, how to get people to trust you: Hang out, read a lot, post a lot, impress us all with your articulation, and ignore the barbs from the civitaphiles.

ohh... and be sure to do it while smoking a fat joint while weighing some crystal meth and pimping out some prostitutes. I think that will leave the right impression to get more people on your side of the issue. :neener:

Sorry, couldn't help myself... :D

Why Vermont? Granted it's a weird little state, but it's hardly foreign. Or are you interested in Vermont Carry laws? Keep in mind we recently adopted Vermont style carry laws up here. So far no shootouts! :D

I am interested in VT because it is the gold standard of RKBA laws in the US - they never changed them.

Yes, I've heard about Alaska :)

+1

IMHO all are related in terms of govermental attempt to control something they have no business controlling and are imposssible to control.

PS Gambling used to be on this list before the .govs decided they could make a profit on it.

Can anyone confirm that Estonia and Latvia are permissive countries gun-wise?

I saw a post on the philippines earlier...
