Can a fellow SKS shooter recommend the appropriate 7.62x39 ammo (bullet type and brand) for hunting deer?

How about wild pig? Will 7.62x39 even drop a pig?

I'd use Wolf HP, but that's simply because it's what i've got on-hand. Better than FMJ shot through a deer :what: . Other than that, I dunno, never hunted with my SKS.

"...Better than FMJ shot through a deer..." Hunting deer with FMJ's is illegal in most places. The thing to consider before you buy hunting ammo is that most American made 7.62 x 39 uses .308" bullets. Eastern Bloc made SKS rifles have .311" barrels.

That makes no sense. So an American 7.62x39 won't fit the SKS barrel?
