An (Old) New Lesson in Liberalism for Canadians
paul gordon

Too bad Canadians kicked out Rush Limbaugh’s show years ago and prevented Fox conservative commentators from being seen or heard in Canada (aka free speech in mild form, just contrary or threatening to entrenched liberal ‘think’ and liberal ‘values) Canadian Christians and pro-Life groups could have predicted liberal ‘social-conservative’ behaviour long ago.
The liberal secret society pro-family/life caucus of 30 or so actually followed the script perfectly. Liberalism is a mind-set that has constant behaviour patterns.

The number one rule in liberalism is stick with the party ship even if it’s sinking something conservatives don’t because ‘real’ conservatives are independent thinkers, not because liberalism is so noble, but the exact opposite. Liberalism stands for nothing except maybe polls and is only duct-taped together by the loyalty of politician, media, entertainment and academia support, and partisan jurist definitive action. So much for the blind eye of justice.

The second rule of liberalism is that personal advancement, and ‘hanging on’ always trumps the party in the crunch. Somehow, I doubt Martin consulted with anyone during his desperation deals with Stranich, the NDP and who knows who else to cling to power.

National daycare was always meant to be a perennial voter carrot, not an implemented policy of the liberals, because even they worried it would start to bankrupt government at least, or cut into other liberal operational pet projects (some secret) at best.

They knew what Peterson and Rae did to Ontario. They also knew they had taxed people to the limit percentage wise as it was. Hence MeGuintys ‘special’ designated project taxes i.e health care, pay back the debt. future education, environment and of course added gas taxes.

Even after the Province downloaded to cities it still found it needed tons of money. Kind of like declaring bankruptcy and not being responsible for ones debts anymore and then going and taking out new loans from captive lenders only they’re not even loans.

This oxymoron social-conservative caucus has only been allowed to exist in the liberal party because it brought in votes that are counted as liberal ‘values’ votes in the wash of the big liberal tent of we’ll take em where we can get em. If the s-c caucus got too big for its britches loyalists to the leadership would be parachuting into local riding elections and leaderships.

With the budget (NDP over- the- top amendment) Bill this caucus could have brought down Martin’s government and actually stood for what they had been preaching to Christian and pro-Life groups such as CLC and Real Women. The unofficial caucus’s unofficial leader comes directly to mind.

Their actions of course, were born out to take a pass on the budget Bill and vote against the same-sex Bill (lose/lose actions because everyone in the Country knew of the Bloc’s stated intention to vote in block for the same-sex Bill).

This way they were able to stay in the Liberal Party to protect careers and pensions and not anger Martin ( made powerful only because of liberal loyalty and inability to stand up to him). Though many could argue they would have been heros, this caucus was afraid they might not win their own ridings and be out of a job for something as noble as principles.

Martin looked good letting the social conservatives vote as they wished and soundly defeating this Christian element and the caucus looked good as they would go back to their constituents and say they voted as they said they would.

A win/win for all liberals and totally predictable for those who know liberalism.
