If you listen to the news you will find the Kurdish in Northern Iraq will be joining in the attack on Bagdad.
So the answer to my question is very revelant in our fight for the 2nd Amendment to be reinstated as it is in Vermont.

The only reason they are not dominated is their determination to not give in, and the types and quanities of FIREARMS they have.
:D

Just what kind of gun control does Saddam have in effect for his civilion population?

Depends. If you're not part of Saddams' Personal Friends Of The Day, 2 hours of social inquiry with red-hot pokers and field phones for shotguns. A ditch and a bullet in the back of the head for possessing scoped rifles or pistols.

If you're one of the priviliged few, you can have anythig you want as long as you don't point said firearm anywhere near the President For Life, or start to look suspicious.

I think "US Warplanes in the No Fly Zone" actually tops that list.

Average Iraqis can own firearms, including military-grade ones.

The Kurds can't protect themselves, and as has been said, the only thing which saved them from destruction was the no-fly-zone.

Stubborn determination.
No fly zone.
Small arms.

In that order.

Well, all that's going to end real soon. No more need for No Fly Zone.

I think we should just make Iraq a state after we take it over.

And, they'll enjoy better firearms freedoms than we do currently.

As they should.

Unless they get Chuckie Schumer or Diane Feinstein for senators.

Even tank crews need to sleep, refuel, etc., sometime.

Buzz, true. But the fact is that before the no-fly zone was put in place, the Kurds were getting their butts kicked by Saddam. That's why the no-fly zones got iimplemented.

Obviously the "No Fly Zone" constricted the Iraqi government considerably.

But the Kurds make pretty persistent moutain guerillas. Even before the Gulf War I, Saddam was never able to "eradicate" Kurdish problems in the North.

So, it's a combination of Coalition airpower and the willingness of the Kurds to not have any yoke on their backs...
