1911 45acp SS frame, steel slide?

As I recall stainless and steel don't slide very well together.

This guy has a nice 1911 he pieced together from a bunch of stuff. It's $400 and looks good. Seems to me a stainless on stainless would wear better.

Actually, it is stainless on stainless that has the reputation for galling. Makers claim that using different alloys or heat treat top vs bottom prevents it.

A gun "pieced together" for $400 could be a bargain or a disaster. Looks don't count, fly before you buy.

In the not so distant past 2 tone 1911s were quite common. Like Mr. Watson posted it's the stainless against stainless that tends to gall.

My Colt Combat Government has a SS frame with a blued slide. No problems.

AMTs were bad for galling, maybe Randalls as well.

There arent any ill effects with using a carbon slide on a stanless frame, other than the fact that the slide will rust easier. Two-tones look better anyway.
