Has anybody tried the J-Point red dot sight ??? It is supposed to be better than the Tasco Optima that is no longer available..
I am in the market for such a sight and am wondering about it..
Have a couple of the Optimas and have had no problems with them, just need more..

Getting information on this sight is rather difficult..They are supposed to be made by the maker of the Optima and are an improved model..The maker of tha Optima,Firepoint, says they are not making the J point sight.. So where and by who is the J point
being made ?? Why is it such a big secret ??

The current issue of USPSA's "Front Sight" magazine (Sept/Oct 2003) has an article that compares two of the "mini" optical dot sights: the J-Point and the Doctor sight.

In summary,

The J-Point is the last generation Tasco Optima with a better lens, brighter module, and improved reliability. The lens is somewhat prone to dot distortion and scratching.

The Doctor sight is a little larger, and a little heavier. It has a better lens and the dot is "sharper". A magnet assists holding the battery in place to prevent any glitches.

Zak you are right that the Docter sight is much better than the J-point,it should be it is more expensive..The docter sight with mount is about $100
more than the J-point with mount..One good thing about the J-point is the ability to use Tasco and Firepoint mounts, both of these are in my estimation better than the J-point mounts..The docter sight while superior to the J-point in overall quality is lacking in a decent mounting system, the best way to mount this sight is to mill the slide and set the sight down at fixed sight level..Great but expensive also..
What it amounts to is what you can afford and how you intend to use it..On an open gun the docter melted into the slide would be the way to go..
By the way the docter has had some problems along the way also but I understand the present,3rd gen, is holding up well..
I have several Optima's and one docter and that is on a CZ with the docter mount and it sets very high..Hope it doesn't shake its self loose..
The J-point will also go on a CZ but with a firepoint mount that puts the sight down low on the slide..
As I stated earlier I will give a report on my opinion of the sight when it arrives..
