Does it still have that silly rail in front of the trigger left over from the sport/target version.

I heard that this would be omitted sometime after they used up existing SS frames.

New version which you'll find in most shops these days has the Picatinny rails. SIG now uses a proprietary frame for the P220ST. If the rails (whichever version) is keeping you from getting a P220ST you don't know what you're missing.

New version.

Previous P220ST version which uses the same frame as the P220 Sport. In this photo the gun looks almost two tone. In real life the difference isn't as dramatic.

The new version looks worse.

Yeah, I personally prefer the older version. The rails aren't quite as noticeable as the new version and retains some of the classic lines. But you do need the adaptor (available through SIG) on the older rails if you want to attach a light.

And yes, SIG has recently released an aluminum framed P226 with exactly the same Picatinny rails as the P220ST pictured above. I certainly hope they do not phase out the classic P226 with the traditional frame. That would be a shame. Personally I could do without the rails on my P220ST. But what are you going to do? Gun manufacturers are going to offer what they perceive their consumers prefer. I'm sure this Irish ARW (Special Forces) soldier would approve of these new rails on the new P226's.

Here's a picture of a P226 (aluminum frame) with the Picatinny rails.
