What's the meaning of this? How long has this been on the market?
Does anyone have any specifications they wish to share (other than the $35/50 price tag)?

first off Are you an LEO? if so then part of what i am about to say doesn't apply.
the "ranger" Ammo is not supposed to be sold to the general public. says right on the box "Law Enforcement ammunition" (translation: this round isn't PC enough for civilians, so you don't get to have it, adn we only partially trust our Police Officers with it)
the SXT ranger is supposed to be a LE only load. b/c when they FIRST brought it out they got flak for it. seems the media didn't like the way the hollow point cavity "looked" nor the orginal name that Winchester gave it....
yepper, SXT ranger = the infamous "Black Talon"
a slightly redesigned version (deleting the "objectonable" points on the jacket) is now out on the maket under something like "personal defense" adn is actually a much better round to be using in case you DO have to use it, and have to defend your actions. simply b/c any even slightly anti gun DA is going to hoist the banner of "well he was using ammo he wasn't even supposed to have!! a round that is NOTORIOUS for being 'an evil, malicous round' that PROVES he meant to go out and cause harm"
just something to keep in mind. just for the "CYA" factor i wouldn't use it. shoot it up, give it to a friend who's a LEO, something, it's just not a good enviroment politically to carry that round.

It's not too hard to find guys from Gunbroker that will sell it for $25-28/box, send them an email and do your deal outside of Gunbroker. I've been buying cases of it for $25/box ($250/case) for a while now. The Ammolab B&M store supposedly sells it for $35/box all the time.

"Law Enforcement Ammunition" is the designation given by the manufacturer, this does nopt mean that it is illegal to own or shoot this stuff (in states allowing JHPs).
It is as believable as the word "Tactical".
There are however, specially designed ammo which is restricted from civilian use.
Plenty of suppliers online & retail & @ gun shows will sell this type of ammo.
The 'kindler, gentler' Ranger ammo is called the SST and has 8 preformed petals instead of the 6 used in the SXT/black talons.

simply b/c any even slightly anti gun DA is going to hoist the banner of "well he was using ammo he wasn't even supposed to have!! a round that is NOTORIOUS for being 'an evil, malicous round' that PROVES he meant to go out and cause harm"
Which in turn means your local police department plans on going out and causing harm?
I would think that by choosing what your local "law enforcement" carries, that defending yourself in court would be pretty simple. "Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, I have chosen to protect the life of myself and/or my family with the same ammunition that our law enforcement officers choose everyday." Slam dunk. Not Guilty.
just something to keep in mind. just for the "CYA" factor i wouldn't use it
Then again wouldn't carrying the best ammunition, be the ultimate "CYA"?
Like they say, it's better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.
IMHO, carry the best ammunition that money can buy.

GunNut,
That argument has never been more eloquently shared than in the words you just typed. Thank you.
