Inform me about 45's and velocity

I just got a Mil Pro Pt145, and I know next to nothing about 45 ammo. I have some 230 grain Winchester SXT, and I believe the velocity is rated around 800 from a five inch barrel. My barrel is shorter than that, only 3 and 1/4 inches. What is the ideal weight and velocity for a short barreled 45 such as the PT145? Thanks for your advice.

For anything 4" and under I prefer either 185gr or 200gr bullets. You lose about 35fps per inch of barrel. To regain the speed, I use 200gr +P Gold Dot JHP bullets in my CCW rig.
On that note, you need to try different rounds and see which one performs the best, feeds reliably, groups best, recoils to your liking and doesn't blind you in the dark. The Mil Pro should feed just about any JHP bullet.

I agree with LennyJoe on this one. My carry round for my champion is 185 silvertip, spare mag of 8 200+p golddots.

FWIW, I chrono'd Win SXT closer to 920 fps in my gov't model.
