Serial number range for the model 38 (including pre model number variant) is from 66000 to to 786544.
In very good condition, $250, excellent condition $350.00. These are the prices given int he standard catalogue of S&W. Gunbroker may give you a more up to date idea of pricing.

Your serial number puts it in the 1985 production, but I don't think any M38 had a shroud. With a shroud you can't see the ejector rod from the right side of the revolver.

In this case, "shroud" refers to covering the sides of the hammer so that the spur won't snag on clothing or in a pocket. :D

thanks for the date guyz, thats right the shroud is on the hammer not the ejector .any idea what the worth is???

The value depends on the demand where you live. On average I would say between $250.00 to $300.00 - less if you trade it in to a dealer.
