Sig P225

Hello,
I picked up a police trade in P225, with a JK date code a few weeks ago. Upon shooting the gun, I must say that this has the smoothest and heavy double action pull I have ever tried. I love the bar dot sights, and the single stack desgin fits my mits very well. I like Fed. Tactical 124gr. JHP(family friend owns a police supply store hence a source for this ammo line).
Do we have many more SIG owners here? What has been you most favored model? Is this a carry gun, compition, plinking, home defense or muesuim(sp) piece?

I have owned two 225 Sigs. They were both 100% reliable.
I guess my favorite Sig is the 220.

I currently own two Sig 225's and love them both. Accurate like a laser. In fact the last 6 months a Sig 225 has been my primary off duty weapon.

Odd. My 225 actually has a very light DA pull. How's the SA pull? Some of the older ones have really heavy triggers and need a new mainspring.
And yes, the 225 is a sweet gun. My primary carry for light-clothing days. Wonderful ergonomics and a great deal of Teutonic charm.

had a 225 for a long time now. love it. love it. love it.
heavy but smooth DA. SA isn't bad at all, but it's no custom 1911.

Hello,
Here are some personal observations on the P225:

I have one but I slightly prefer my Sig Sauer P239. www.sigforum.com would be a good place for you to read up on the P225 if you would like.

I dislike the 9x19. And I dislike most semis. And I dislike most Sigs. But the P225 is something else entirely. It's one of the most accurate and smoothest handguns I've ever shot. The engineering is perfect, and the ergonomics of the single stack 9mm are far superior to the fatter double-stack Sigs, at least to my hands. You can really get a grip on it.

Mr.Camp,
Your write up helped me make the decision to buy my SIG. Your site has a wealth of information that I have read a lot. Thanks for sharing your results and knowledge.
I might add another P225 to the safe, as the double column loading guns are a bit large for my hands, except the P01 for some odd reason.

My P225 is my favorite 9mm, in fact it's my favorite handgun.
I owned a P226 ST 9mm. It was very accurate and 100% reliable, but didn't fit my hand as well as the P225.
I bought a P220 9mm on Gunbroker saturday, and I can't wait to get it! :D

What has been you most favored model? P228
Is this a carry gun, compition, plinking, home defense or muesuim(sp) piece? It is , or has been, everything you describe but a museum piece...

I owned one of those European 9mm 220s years ago. Should NEVER have sold it. Enjoy.

SOG used to offer these 9mm P220s which were West German Police surplus guns, at a good price. I had a chance to buy one LNIB @2 yrs ago for $395.00, and this included 2 rare factory mags, and I flaked on the deal. I can still kick my own butt for that one, since I consider this to be one of the very best Sig models!

As you can see, even people who aren't predisposed to like the P225 usually do! The only real lick on this pistol is that it's a bit large relative to its capacity for CCW, but a lot of people would disagree with even that point. The P225 is pretty close to legendary.

I had held a P225 in a local gunstore a couple of years ago when I was looking to get a 9mm, but I didn't buy it at the time. I did just get one early this year though when CDNN had them for a good price. Out of what I own, it's my favorite handgun by a wide margin and I'm glad I didn't pass it up again.
I'd like to have a few of the other Sigs as well, but the main one I'm wanting now is the P220ST. Unfortunately, it's unlikely I'll be able to afford one anytime soon.

I've owned six Sig Sauer pistols. Three 45acp P220s, one 9mm P220 that's actually badged a Browning BDA, one P225 and my most recent acquisition, a P226 ST in 357sig. One of P220s stovepiped and average of three times per fifty rounds and the P226 suffers from a lack of quality control. It took 500 rounds before the decocker started working properly, the slide release still don't work and it ejects the brass in an erratic pattern. That said, I love the P225. I like the heavy, smooth DA and will probably convert it to DAO. If I could CCW I would carry the P225 which I consider a perfect size for that purpose.

My favorite that I have is the 220ST.
My dream Sig is a P239 ST.
The P239 alloy was my first ever Sig, and its been my most reliable pistol to date. ZERO malfunctions, with 4,000-5,000 rounds fired.

I own 3 Sigs, two 226s and one 220ST. At one time I had a 225 but I sold it to a fellow Calguns member after it sat in my safe for almost 9 months. My 226 and 220ST are probably my two favorite guns. They exhibit the same reliability and accuracy that make them Sigs.

Congratulations on an excellent acquisition! I own the 225's near sibling, the 228. When deciding which SIG I wanted I held both to compare the grip angle, feel, etc. The 225 is a fantastic feeling gun in the hand, maybe only the Browning Hi Power and CZ P-01 compare.
I chose the 228 because I got a good trade deal on it, and because the ever-so-slight difference in grip feel did not for me outweigh the capacity difference. The 228 has now become the standard by which I evaluate all pistols. I have owned a Browning Hi Power and a Springfield Loaded 1911, neither of which, for me, measured up to the SIG. The SIG may not be as pleasing to the eye as the BHP and the 1911, but in my experience it outperformed them in function.
Mine is used for fun at the range, home defense (within arm's reach every night), and daily carry.
It's not just me who prefers the SIG. My wife goes to the range with me occasionally. When we were trying to find a suitable home defense gun for her we shot a Kahr K-9, a 5" Kimber, a Browning Hi Power, S&W revolvers, Ruger revolvers, and a SIG 232 along with my 228. Out of all she shot, the SIG 228 was her choice for home defense.

At one point or another I think I've owned every member of the P series except for the 210 (someday, she will be mine). I think the 225 is probably my favorite, which is saying a lot because I was quite fond of all of them except the 239 and 245 (which didn't fit my hand well). I liked it so much I got 2, just in case something bad happens to one of them.
The 225s didn't make the family photo because at the time I only owned one and it was on my hip and I forgot to take it off, but you get the idea:

Excellent write up Mr Camp.
I have tried to like the P225 but it's not my cup of tea. The DA tends to be heavier than on any of the other SIG Classics, the slide's finish is subpar for the price they charge, the grip doesn't fit my hand, and the mag base plate pushes my fingers against the trigger guard. The P239 works better for me but as always YMMV.
