Cut 1/4" off a Beretta 682 12 ga. (heavy frame) and mounted a Pachy recoil pad. Returned it to the customer and he shot a round of clays. The stock cracked in three places, once on each side of the rear of the trigger guard and once on top near the safety lever and tang. These cracks look as if the gun was dropped sideways and caught the tip of the barrel. Small cracks, about 3/4" long running back toward the butt. Almost as if you put the butt stock in a vise and pulled the barrel sideways until the stock split. No unusual tourque applied to the stock bolt, snug and a quarter turn. Any ideas?

It does sound as if it was dropped, any other small signs that possibly it may have been? A ding or marr on the barrel? maybe another ding on the stock? It sounds very unusual for a Beretta stock to do this. I have a 682, and it is built heavy, can't imagine a small recoil pad job doing this to a gun.

Does the 682 use a thrubolt? Some manufacturers quote pretty low numbers for torque, like 5-6 ft/lbs. Not saying its on you, just food for thought.
