I just bought a HK fullsize .45 today. I will be using it for police academy, then as a duty weapon. What is the over all opinion of the stock standard sights. I would like to put night sites on eventually. Any suggestion would be great!!

For most day time applications, the standard sights are fine. But, if you EVER plan to be in dim, low or no light situtions, I've found Trijicons work just as well. POI does not change and they are quite durable.
Good choice in duty weapon ;)

i have a compact .40 that i just removed the Trijicon's from and replaced them with the factory HK night sights (made by Meprolight). the Trij's shot 2 inches low and the front sight didn't fit the dovetail. i could slide it back and forth with my fingers. not conducive to consistency. having compared the two, i like the HK night sights much better. the dots are bigger, brighter and the same shape and configuration as the stock sights and it now shoots to point of aim. some folks have great sucess with Tijicon, but my experience was less than ideal.

I recently started to carry a fullsize H&K .45 also. I just did the switch to Mep night sights with the yellow rear and green front. I work second shift for an armored car company and found it hard to see the factory sights in the evening hours. I switched the sights myself, just put the slide in a padded vise and tapped the old ones out and the night sights in. Just be careful not to scratch the slide or damage the sight.A brass punch and hammer should be used. The new sights shoot to the same point as the factory orignals. I also have the same sight set up on my 9mm and compact .45 H&K guns.
If you decide to purchase the sights yourself try Arizon Gun Runners website. They offer a 10% discount to law enforcement and security employees. Got mine for $72 shipped to my door.
Good luck, ShooterJD

I carry my USP45f on and off duty, and I love it. I have Mepro's on one and Trijicon on the other, and I prefer the Mepro's.
Get a Wolff 12lbs trigger spring, test it well, and you'll be happier with the trigger. I'm allowed to carry condition one, so the DA pull isn't that big a deal, but the Wolff spring makes it pretty good.
You'll likely have the slide stop locking back on the last round after having the mags loaded for a few months - Wolff now makes 12rd mag springs which will solve that problem (they're DAMN tight at first). Wolff will give you an LE discount, which is nice.
I highly recommend the Safariland "hood" holster. Fast and secure, and can be easily and safely modified for C&L carry if you're allowed and so desire.
Good luck with your new job!

I did, but realized it was jus something else I had to put in my range bag. I don't notice the need for it anymore anyway. I've got about 20k+ rounds through my USPs. Loading the mags isn't a big deal :D
