Shotshell cartridges?

I used to buy plastic holders for bird shot that I could then load with birdshot and shoot small critters. I think Speer made them, it's been years since I had any. Are these things still sold? Anyone know where?

They are still made. I saw rack of them up at Sportmen's Warehouse and Midwayusa sell a couple different types but are out of 38 Special and 45 Colt capsules right now.

CCI makes some. I recently ordered a box of 10 in .357 magnum from Sportsman's Guide (http://www.sportsmansguide.com/).

This is NOT what I want. I want the plastic shot holders that I can load myself. The prices on that loaded ammo from CCI is ridiculous.

I think you can get them from Midway or places like that. You might also try the reloading forum.

Depending on what caliber you are going to use you can use gas checks to make your own shot shells. A box of gas checks will make 500 shot shells and is way cheaper than those plastic hulls.
I have also made them of cardboard or plastic, but they weren't as durable.

Speer makes them and they are still sold. Go to midwayusa.com and search for "speer" and "shot". That should return 4 search hits; 3 of which are what you want.

In an issue of 'Handloader' magazine one of the authors experimented with using a very fine shot like No. 9 or No. 10 sandwiched between 2 gaschecks for revolver shotshells and seemed to get satisfactory results.

I use the Speer capsules in .38/.357 and .45 Colt, and I use the gas check method in .41 Mag.
