Just wanted to share my experience.
Went shooting yesterday with my brand new K9. It was shooting great until about 30 rounds into it I notice that my guide rod is sticking out about 3" in front of the gun! :what:
Well after a small bench fee to the range gun smith I learned that I had caused the incident by incorrectly reassembling the gun after field stripping. I had put the recoil spring on backwards. Since I inserted the guide rod into the "big" end of the spring, it proceeded to slip into the spring and then screw itself out of the gun. Also, the big end of the spring lodge itself into the frame, which is why I had to get the gunsmith to step in.
I've owed a few semiautos but never knew that recoild springs could be installed backwards. Oh well, no harm, no fouls. Chalk it up to cheap life lessons.
Hope this helps keep someone else from pulling a similar bonehead move when their life might depend on it.
