What type of ammo are you using and why? Also what do you stay away from and why?
thanks

And I think that smilie is supposed to mean that you don't really care or like a 'Whatever!' type attitude.

Either way... welcome.

sw99,

Welcome. :) Disregard the initial derogatory comments about your pistol.

SOME Walther P99s experience initial problems if bullets lighter than 124 gr. are use for the first 3-400 rounds. Not all. I have/had five P99s, three of which were/are 9mmx19. I have never experience this problem with my pistols.

If you want to use the very common 115 gr. ammunition, Walther makes a 48 Newton recoil assembly for this or SD use. I myself see no need to buy a recoil assembly just to use lighter bullets initially.

Just use any good brand of 124 gr. or heavier ammunition and you should experience no problems at all.

I have some useful tips on my web site and info in regard to the P99 pistol [much of which will also be for the SW99] and you will also find a link to the Walther FAQ which has a wealth of information on the P99. Even more than you will get contacting either S&W or Walther America about your pistol.

Good luck... ;)

When I purchased my gun from the shop owner he through in some American eagle 9 mm 115 grain full metal jacket with the deal. I figure that it most likely is on the low scale of ammo. Someone correct me If I'm wrong I take it I am Do to Jim's experiences which totally exceed mine, I have 0% experience.

I have a SW99 in .40. Only ammo that ever gave me a problem was some Fiocchi I bought cheap.

My German SIG P220 didn't like Fiocchi either.

My P99 9mm has digested everything I've ever fed it. Never a problem with ball or hp. Mostly though it's been fed S&B and some Geco 124gr I found at my local dealer. Really seems to like the Geco if you can find it - cheap and hot!:what:

Welcome sw99,

JimC is right about some P99s not liking 115 gr. ammo.

Mine had several jams and wasn't all that accurate when I tried to break it in using Winchester White Box 115 gr. FMJ. I then heard about the possible 115 gr. problem during break in. My next trip to the range with it I used 124 gr. American Eagle and it was like a completely different gun! :D Extremely accurate and zero malfunctions of any kind! That's the kind of performance I was expecting from the P99.

I don't know if the SW99 has the same potential problem with 115 gr. ammo, but my P99 really seems to like American Eagle and PMC 124 gr. FMJ.
