To think that the peaceniks are developing their own list of martyrs.
At least the author of this piece provides some humor in this sketch of Rachel the Saint. Is that an upside down cross on her head and her left shoulder?

Is that an upside down cross on her head and her left shoulder?Of course it is.
You didn't think that Dan Savage, author of "Skipping Towards Gomorrah" - in which he pridefully attempts to commit the 7 deadly sins - would miss a chance to bash Christianity, did you?
Surely some of the thousands who demonstrated at Green Lake last weekend are willing to head over to McChord or Fort Lewis or Bangor or Bremerton or Whidbey Island and stand directly in the way of the war effort shipping out of local Navy, Army, and Air Force bases. I hope that he heeds his own advice. The sooner he gets crushed under some equipment, the better.

True stories of "peace activists."
When I was in the US Navy, my ship, the USS Goldsborough, DDG-20, was pulling into Brisbane Austrailia for shore leave.
This was during the waning days of the nuclear freeze movement. Our standing orders when conducting watches was to neither confirm nor deny the presence of nuclear weapons or power aboard ship.
Anyways, we are pulling in and we are met by a Greenpeace protest of activists in small boats. Apparently, none of them understand physics. Contrary to landlubber belief, warships do not have a braking system. We had some '***** in a sailboat attempt to cut across our path of forward progress. All we could do was blast the horn at them feverishly as their underpowered motor set them up for a collision.
Fortunately or not, depending on your view, we didn't kill any of them. Our bow wave, small as it was at our harbor speed before meeting the local pilot, was sufficient to shove them out of the way with only a knock, rather than cutting their vessel in half. I am still happy to report that their boat was badly swamped.
In port, I was standing a pier watch. Everyday we were in town we had a gaggle of these wackos at the entrance to the pier, where we had set up a rented chain link barrier, a podium, and two "SP" wearing petty officers armed with nightsticks and a radio. Contrary to my orders just a little bit, I got tired of fielding the question, "Is that a nuclear vessel?" I said something along the lines of, "Do us all a favor. Go to the library and look at Jane's Fighting Ships and come back and tell all of your friends how many nuclear vessels sport two smokestacks."
Lessons? 1) Brisbane, and Austrailia in general, is still a pretty cool place to visit. 2) Not everyone in the harbor was a peace activist, as we were also welcomed in the harbor by several pretty hot women trying to get a reaction from us while in ranks by coming alongside and flashing us. 3) Brisbane, and again Australia in general, has some pretty hot women, most of whom care only if you can show them a good time rather than if you are radioactive.
Oh yeah, and 4), peace activists are generally morons.

While I agree, I think we shouldn't forget that when Palestine was "refashioned" post-WWII, it was supposed to be made into an Israeli-state and a Palestinian-State.
So, how come the UN only made one of them?
Understand that I have no sympathy for terrorist organizations (on either side of the Gaza Strip), but don't ya think that if we'd have done the job right in 1948, some of these problems would be gone?
They'd still be fighting over who gets Jerusalem, but we'd have done our part, and they could beat all other challengers down for "baddest in the Middle East" Title.
This stuff has gone on for millenia. These cultures were fighting before Mohammed, before Jesus, before Solomon. You just can't erase aggressions imprinted this deeply in a culture's collective psyche overnight.
Sure wish you could though. Make living a lot easier over there...

Is that your sly swipe at Israel? Do you really believe that Israel is a terrorist organization? If the Palestinians would oeverthrow their "leaders" (why Arafat is still drawing breath is beyond me, although I think it has much to do with the US holding Israel back) and put as much energy into bettering themselves as they do into hatred of the Jews, they might actually progress beyond their primitive mindset/lifestyle. But no, they'd rather blame Israel and the US for all of their troubles.
The Palestinians' trouble stems from that most destructive of human emotions--envy. And this is fed and nurtured by those who purport to lead them. If they knocked off all of the terrorist idiocy they've indulged in for decades and started to build a society based on reason, the rule of law, and fidelity to reality, do you really think Israel would have a problem with them? The truth is, Israel is far more advanced, in technology, society, and morally than the Palestinians.

P.S. BTW, I feel sorry for the young woman killed by the bulldozer. For someone to be so out of touch with reality, and then to die without ever knowing the true happiness that objective analysis of life can bring, is a shame. When you operate on the level of pure emotion, and never use/develop your mind's conceptual abilities, you are little better than an animal. And like an animal, you can be manipulated and trained to do all sorts of silly things.

Please understand that I have no grudge against Israel or her People. However, I think we're forgetting something. We were SUPPOSED to make a Palestinian State too.
The Palestinians' trouble stems from that most destructive of human emotions--envy.
Envy of what? Palestine was a country BEFORE Israel (in modern history). After WW II, they completely remade the Middle East to create a sanctuary for a people that had attrocitites committed upon them of unspeakable horror. Israel is here, and it SHOULD be here. However, so should Palestine.
Terrorist groups exist in every major religion, though they sure seem to pop up in Islam with alarming regularity, don't they?
(if they) put as much energy into bettering themselves as they do into hatred of the Jews, they might actually progress beyond their primitive mindset/lifestyle.
You ever been to the West Bank? Me neither. Unless they're going to make a silicon factory, what the heck else is out there than sand? How do you better yourself with dirt-clods? I think we're on the same side here. You and I both hate terrorism. You and I both believe in the Sovereignty of Israel. I just want the UN to finish their job, create a Palestine, and if terrorists continue to pop up in [I]that state as well, we'll do a Iraq on them too.
Whenever one place is a major seat to three different religions, trouble is bound to crop up. But, I don't think Jahweh, the Lord, or Allah had this bloodshed in mind.
Once again, do not think me anti-Israel.

History is full of them. I remember a guy laying across the tracks in front train transporting nuclear material in San Diego in the late 80s. He had more than enough time to change his mind, instead he opted to get his legs cut off while his friends and TV cameras looked on.
Maybe I'm just simple minded, but I always figured that before you put yourself in harms way, you should accept that you might get harmed if you do.

The Palestinians are envious of the Jews who came there and built a modern society, complete with Western-style material goods. Blaming all of their problems on the Jews has done more to keep the Palestinians down than the Jews ever could.
From what I've learned, Jews began filtering into Palestine in the late 1800s as a part of the Zionist movement. They got along well with the Palestinians, probably because there were no hate-mongering leaders. When the Jews got there, there were small villages, and not much else. No industry, no modern conveniences, etc. Over the decades, the Jews began to make something of the area and the standard of living for all in the region improved. But somewhere along the line, probably when Israel was created, things went bad. If the Palestinians get there way and push all of the Jews into the sea, what will that gain them?

FoxNews had a bit on the U. of MD paper publishing a cartoon that portrayed Corrie as too stupid to get out of the way.
Guess what?
All her America-hating fellow travelers on campus staged a sit-in blocking the entrance to the paper's offices until they A) published an apology B) got rid of the cartoonist and C) published an encomium for Corrie.
Didn't hear how this resolved itself.

Not to cast any dispersions on Bulldozer Chick, but I can't help imagining a little girl who whenever she threw a little tantrum fit, her parents gave in and she got her way. She probably just got a little too used to stomping her feet and crossing her arms in a huff and the whole world stopped and catered to her needs. Flash forward to 2003, and this time the big mean dozer is making her mad, so she stomps her feet, stands in front of it, and crosses her arms in bratlike protest. Well,.......um, I guess Dozer Dude either didn't see her or wasn't up to speed on adolescent mind games, or... who knows? Bummer.

First off... I remember my LPD getting ready to pull out of Perth, Australia, and an impromptu parade went by on the road. Including a van from Greenpeace. Said driver thought we were all cheering him, and had a big grin on his face, until he noticed the truckload of strippers behind him, flashing all of us... :D
As for the whole "Palestine" thing: if memory serves, Jordan was the state created by the UN mandate. In all reality, there WAS no nation there before the UN set things up. Isreal was created for the Jews out of British holdings (again, this is "if memory serves"). The surrounding arab states tried several times to destroy Isreal, and got their posteriors handed to them each time. Gaza and the West Bank are essentially the spoils from those wars...
And please: if someone has more knowledge of the topic, correct me!

Heard a radio report today giving the "facts" on this issue.
Around here, WA State, there has been much said about the dozer driver supposedly hitting her on purpose and running over her twice. Another individual who was there with her has stated that this is not true. The witness says that she was on top of a mound of dirt. When the dozer started to scoop from the pile, she decided to try to get on top of it and stepped forward. Weakened by the dozer-bite, the dirt collapsed under her so that she slid down and under it.

Actually, they seem to have a pretty decent selection of non-editorial cartoons as well. Back when I was there they had a' truly hysterical and well-drawn cartoon called "University Squared" (IIRC), but there current selections are not too bad either. Pay particular attention to the (nicely named) "Liberal Crap."

Jackie Jeter-Hunter, assistant director of undergraduate admissions, said the department has not received any negative feedback concerning the cartoon, and no incoming freshmen have retracted their applications because of the cartoon.
Go figure.
Student Government Association President Brandon DeFrehn said the cartoon was done in "very poor taste" and "unnecessary." He applauded the students' mobilization and encouraged similar student movements on equally important issues. The protests were far larger than movements against tuition and fee hikes.
"I think it was great for students to protest," DeFrehn said. "I would like to see more kinds of protests and activism on issues. Those kind of things send a message. When people don't show up for tuition task force meetings, it sends a message that it's not an issue important for students."
