Grip problem on S&W

I own an older Model 10-5, 2" round butt revolver C69XXXX and I'm having trouble fitting after market grips to it. Pachmayr's Compac Professionals with an open back don't match the backstrap with about a sixteenth of an inch of the frame protruding past the grip.

I tried the standard Compac and couldn't get them to fit. Another pair of S&W wood grips showed the frame was somewhat larger than the assumed standard. The factory grips that came with the revolver fit.

My questions are: Were older S&W frames made larger, are there after market grips I can get and if not what options do I have to put on different grips short of getting them custom built. Is there another grip manufacturer I should try?

Thanks,

Paul

Paul, this might be a wild goose chace but try to contact Herretts grip company and see if they can shed any light on your problem. Good luck.

I don't see a mention of it in Supica & Nahas, however it wouldn't surprise me if the standare grip profile for a K-frame round-butt has changed between '62 and today...
