Hello.

I was thinking about getting a .22WMR rifle in a month or so just for varmint dispatching and small game hunting, and have decided to get a Marlin 882, since it seems to be a good rifle for the money. I just have a few ammo questions.

What kind of accuracy do you get with your favorite load? I know different rifles perform different with different ammo, but I was just wondering what kind of groups I can expect when I find a decent ammo.

Also, which company makes the best 40 grain soft point? For varmint hunting, I plan on using CCI TNT, which in my non scientific testing seems to be the most explosive, but for hunting I would want a bullet that expands rapidly, but will not damage the meat too much (I will probably do head shots most of the time though). Do soft points even expand at 1500-2000 FPS, or do they require higher velocities to expand?

Thanks!

I have the Marlin 882 and its a darn good shooter. Using a rather inexpensive 4x scope I can do quarter size groups at 100yds all day.

My Marlin loves Winchester HP .22mags.

Hecks yeah man - my CZ 452 varmint in .22 mag shoots pretty darn good. This is one of my favorite cartridges.
