Beretta 92 versus s&W 5906 in terms of the least amount of recoil?:

1)How close do these two guns compare in the perceived recoil?

2)Does the extra weight(37.5 ozs.)of the S&W 5906, offset the lighter weight(34 ozs.)of the alloy framed Beretta 92 to make the recoil about equal-or?

3)Are these two guns, close in having a similarly low bore axis?

4)Add any other relative or subjective comments regarding the differences in recoil, between these two guns?

1)You'll get as many different answers as people posting. IMHO the Beretta 92 has less felt recoil because of the barrel/locking blow design.

2)It's not only weight but how the slide operates.

3)I find that the Beretta sits lower in the hand.

4)Recoil is mostly subjective. A guy at my range fires 41Magnum all day long while for first timers that 41Magnum is a beast.

Base your decision more on how each feels in your hand. Find a range with rantals and try them out before you buy.

Recoil is all w/ the beholder! But to address your question more directly, I prefer the 92fs because the grip fits me better and this distributes recoil in my hands better...YMMV! ;)

I too prefer the Beretta for a number of reasons but I don't think recoil is much different between the two. The grip of the Beretta is better for me and the trigger seems smoother but I have seen S&W 5906s that had trigger jobs that were outstanding as well.

BTW, both of these guns have alloy frames.

The 5906 is all steel (stainless). Smith did offer an alloy frame (5904 IIRC)

Haven't shot the 5906. But I'll say that it depends on the ergonomics of the gun--if you can get your paws around the gun and clamp it down, it'll feel like it recoils less than the gun that doesn't feel just as good in your mitts.

I have both, and I perceive less recoil with the 5906 - by a fair amount. Yes, it's heavier, but it also fits my hand better, which I think is the real key here.

quite frankly i never thought a Nine in a full size frame recoils you get a little bounce but that is it. my son was shooting a model 39 smith at 9 or 10 years old.
