Whoa. Once again the real story is nothing at all like what ends up on the wire. That's horrible.
Diaz said he was not bitter toward his attackers, even though, with his injured right eye, he's not sure he will ever be able to resume his career as a commercial truck driver.
"I don't want to throw these guys in the dungeon for 20 years and, you know, punish them to death or beat them.Well that's very generous of him, but I don't think law enforcement is going to want to have to deal with these people again 20 years from now or ever.

In this case, it wasn't so much the bottle rockets that let the attackers do this. It was the evil ideas they had.
But really, none of them would hurt a fly, they're all good kids, etc.
Let's ban bottle rockets! :p

I'm sorry, did this occur in Atlanta or Mogadishu? Or is there no difference anymore?

"It wasn't just the bottle rocket, man. I mean, there was like a makeshift kind of roadblock there with giant cinder block pieces, and my truck was getting bombarded with all kinds of debris you know-- rocks, God knows what."
And then they robbed him and beat him while his eyeball was hanging from the socket.
Lock them up and throw away the key. It's money well spent.

Then he is much more forgiving than I.
I'd hate to have been the kids had they picked a THR member to attack :uhoh:

Was that intended to be a California joke? If it was, it was funny. None of those here (legally anyway).

It was intended to be the "common" reaction to this occurance. Sad, no?

Good lord I guess I better armor up the SUV before driving through Atlanta. What amazes me is the 18 year old they caught has only been charged with a misdemeanor? I mean geez they setup a roadblock, cause an accident of a decent sized truck with who knows what in it and then beat the guy while he's down. You'd think they'd be able to come up with something a little bit stronger for everyone.
I'd hate to have been the kids had they picked a THR member to attack
I'm not even sure having a gun on him would have helped. It sounded like he was to messed up to really do anything. Although THR member coming on the crash scene right after it happened would be a different thing.

Why would they?? Now, if they had GUNS too, then they'd be in jail for many, many years. Gee, something like a rock still counts as armed robbery, no?
Good detective work, guys. :scrutiny:

Oh,no, they will prosecute him for not having had his window rolled up, to prevent a crash! He'll get 10 years, and the little darlings, who suffered emotional injury after realizing they were dancing on a very dangerous platform, ie the overturned truck, will be collecting his retirement checks for him....
Then, if this went like gun lawsuits do, suit would be filed to prevent windows from being rolled down, and possesion of a window crank would be a lifetime prohibition against driving in any thing, plus Fed jail time for owning a car, much less driving it.....
Is this silly enough, or disgustingly familiar enough?

I do not often quote scripture, but one seems very appropriate here, the one that says, "An eye for an eye." If I was him that is what I would feel, and then I would feel slighted anyway.

armoredman,
I think the police will catch more of them. I think they'll file felony charges on the 18 year old. The rest of your scenario is unheard of in Georgia. I've been paying close attention for over twenty years here. I've yet to hear of a single wrongful death lawsuit in a justified homicide, for example.
Your scenario is not familiar here. Georgia lawyers have this strange antipathy for not getting paid. Granted, for cash on the barrel, they'll file all the strange suits you want but they want cash, not checks, good bit of cash, too. In the weirdo states, it pays lawyers to file weirdo lawsuits on a contigency fee basis. Georgia lawyers stayed awake in math class-they know that forty percent of nothing is nothing.

this is just plain depressing, and all the more infuriating because we can't do a damned thing to stop it.
we cant make people who have determined that they do not want to live by society's rules, venture further the bounds of human decency.
and hell we can't just take em out and shoot'em niether.
Coventry, a concept fostered by Robert Heinlein (see "Revolt in 2100", "If This Goes On"), where those who reject the social contract, are psychologically realigned, or are rejected from society. I will not bore the reader with a full discussion of the concept, but it has many ideas of real worth, if you care enough to find out.
As my generation sinks further into senseless violence, decadence, and moral depravity, I am at a loss for what to do next.

"Honestly, I would just like for them to apologize, you know. Apologize for taking my livelihood away from me.
"You know, hey, things happen, man, there are a lot of people in way worse shape than me. I mean, look what happened with the trains and all these other bombs [in terrorist attacks], imagine what their families have to go through," Diaz said.
"My situation's probably a small grain of sand compared to a lot of other people that have it a lot worse than I do, so I've got to be pretty thankful I'm actually able to sit here and talk to you."
What a nut. Who was it that said, "some people need killing." These clockwork orange sociopathic monsters just might.

That guy is awesome. What a stand-up guy, and he's not driving himself crazy whining and crying. He's doing everything right, even though all the wrong stuff that happens to him.
And just so y'all remember how Karma works, other truck driver's will quite probably hear about this incident, and I'd bet that the next time something like this is tried it won't be a cake-walk.

I was in Atlanta, at Centennial Park, when all that foolishness was going on out on Bankhead Hwy. I wouldn't count on any really heavy punishment for the perps.
Another group of the same ilk were doing some "mild" rampaging in and around Centennial Park on the 4th. They were stopping vehicles on Marietta Street, jumping on cars, etc. Bunch of them jumped in the back of some old guy's pickup and scared him senseless. They also broke out a window.
Won't be watching fireworks in downtown Atlanta next year!

Downtown Atlanta is no place to go when there is a big to-do happening. South of dntn Atlanta is no place to go--ever--unless you have a bad crack habit you need to feed.

That's odd, because I bought plenty of them roughly 3 weeks ago from a large Black Cat retailer with a store front. Do you have a link to the law that "banend" them?
