Gun haiku

July 25, 2005, 02:11 AM
A handgun nearby

loving mother rests her feet

children sleep soundly

early morning fog

goblins look for easy repast

man with Glock fears not

her first bullseye scored

daughter's smile luminous

gun culture lives on

So how are these? I've never done poetry before.

It could be loaded
Or it could be empty, butÖ
To me its loaded

Where is it pointed?
Know it is pointed safely
Or donít pick it up

Always the same way
Sight target, decide to shoot
THEN finger in guard

The bullet canít see
So I have to look for it
Till where it will stop

Will they be my next victim
Or will I be his

July 25, 2005, 12:00 PM
Lucky snoozed in front of the tent
while Martha and I set up empty tea cans on a log
at the bottom of a dry gulch
for some afternoon's plinking with our pocket revolvers.

Later on, as the moon rose over pine-covered mountains,
and an owl hooted, before slumber overtook
us tired hikers, I reflected on what a great country
this is, and said a little prayer of thanks.

(Oops,not a haiku, I just realized.)

It tis not haiku proper, but hey, its fun...

Cloudy sky, earths shield from the sun;
Protects me well, we are one
Forest i love, senses so keen
Crunch of needles, ever so green

Shiny brass of the gray sunlight
May rain! All will be right!
Rain .223 brass, i think :p
For oh how i love to plink!

The action slides, beautiful sight
Harsh noise causes fright
But me, it is natural beauty!

And another one about my mauser....

Stripper clips
Load em by five

Gone in a second,
Busy as a bee in a hive

Clack, boom
Repeat it by five!

Five five five,
Five aimed shots!
All in a pie!

And one last one,

Forests are a love truer than any else,
Few are privilaged enough to appreciate,
I am.

And oh how i do love it so,
Every lost inch is a crime, personal afront
I could lose myself to easily, were i not wary!

But, i wish i could lose myself
My heart longs for it to be so...
My mind knows better. How i wish it did not!

Hm, i pity the poor souls who see naught of nature but a planted palm in a park!

In tribute to the bear killers of THR:

Lions, pumas, bears!
What gun for these animals?
Pour out your whiskey!

In tribute to the gun nuts:

Which gun? Gun, gun, gun.
Hardware no, software yes, sir.
Training is the way.

Funny this should come up. I used to write poetry in my youth and at one time I was on a haiku discussion list. I was looked down upon because I didn't always use a 'nature' word in my haiku as required to be 'true' to form. Of course, I argued that mine were about the 'nature' of humanity.

On being not a vicim:

Synapses fire
Muscles expand and contract
Veins begin to burn.

A man f*cks with me
Knife slides smoothly between ribs
I continue on.

Man busts up my car
Run him down at ninety-five
New hood ornament.

Man breaks in my house
My gun barks twice, drag him in
Go on back to sleep.

A single gunshot,
Like blood-red punctuation,
Ending the sentence.

Sunlight glints off brass
Arcing gently through the air,
Landing at my feet.

The smell of cordite
Perfume in the rancid air
Burns at my nostrils.

As I stomp you down
Big black boots now black and red
A graphic footprint.

Hidden among us;
You cannot spot a killer
By the shoes he wears.

Cool acts of violence
I don't insult my victims
By feeling sorry.

A friend of mine & I used to ponder mimes in much the same way zombies are discussed here on THR:

Invisible box,
The man within shot once; twice,
What sound does he make?

Calliope plays
Another dead harlequin,
Blood stains a white face.

Silencer, of course
His gun is fast...mine faster,
Shots break the silence.

The now severed head
Takes the steps two at a time,
Smile still intact.

Written during the 1st Gulf War. Same as it ever was...

Foreign diplomats
Refuse to admit to their sins;
With insincere smiles.

Through the viewfinder,
Moonlight plays on quiet streets
In this strange city.

I wait in darkness,
And watch the war on TV,
Feeling only cold.

Oh, guys! This is cool.

My normal poetry is either very romantic or pretty lewd. I'm thinking this is a good inspiration to write something new about something I love other than women.

Pistol in my hand
The ground carpeted by shells
My grin is wicked
