Hi all.
Going shooting tomorrow, and I want to try my Mossi 88 with the PG only.
Any techniques or tips I should be aware of?
(Other than to put the full stock back on... )
Thank you

Unless your dentist is your best friend, don't shoot from eye level.

There's a good thread on this at TFL. Dave has essentially written the book there.
In my limited experiance, use your arms to control recoil. You can align it with your eye for shooting, but it's going to be "interesting" to hold on to it. I've done it and I'm not unusually strong or big.
Shooting from the hip with birdshot is probably the way to start. Keep your strong side forearm straight (90 degrees to upper arm) and use your weak hand to help ccontrol recoil.
It is possible to get good at this, but I'm not sure why. :) I had a 20 ga with a PG that was fairly mild to use. My 12 ga was a horse of a different color.

Yeah... Don't smoke while you shoot :D
A buddy of mine was shooting his PG Mossberg Pursuader, and decided to fire it from the hip. He's standing there, trying to look cool, with a cigarette hanging from his lips.
Well, he pulled the trigger, the forend slipped from his weak hand, and the shotgun flipped upward and smacked him in the mouth, knocking his cigarette all the way into his mouth, burning his lip.
Now I suppose it's not entirely wise to LAUGH UNCONTROLLABLY at a man holding a 12 gauge, but the other two guys there and I were laughing so hard we were crying! Needless to say, he was :cuss:
I wish I had that on video.

Yes. Put the full stock back on:neener:
The best way to do it is to avoid putting it at eye, mouth, or chin level. Get a firm hold around the forend, and curl your fingers around it to prevent it from rising. Make sure your strong hand and arm is stiff, but not locked, or your entire body will get the recoil.
Enjoy. It's not really that bad.

Reason #4,456,987 NOT to smoke.
:neener:
(As if I need another reason. I hate smoking anyway....)
Everyone else:
Thanks for the tips.
Unfortunately, I didn't get to go shooting this last weekend due to weather, so the Sac area THR shoot is rescheduled.
:(
Thank you
