M1 Stocks

We have been slowly going through my fathers inventory of stuff (a lot of stuff) 72 yrs of collecting will do that I guess. It looks as though he has about 5 wood stocks, 4 of which are wrapped in some type of wax paper and one that is not. They look to be for the M1. I will try and get some pictures up for better clarification.

In the event they are as stated, what are they good for and or worth? I vaguely remember taping a metal pipe into the forend and carrying it around in the late 70's as my weapon of choice. It might take some time for the pics since I have returned home and won't be back to help my mom out for a couple of weeks.

The value depends on the condition, maker and any markings on the stocks. Check the winning bid prices on eBay.

Where should I look for the markings. Like I mentioned these things are in some type of wax (beeswax) wrapping paper so I didn't want to mess with them. The one without wrapping I didn't look at too closely because of where we found them (as mentioned my dad was a collector) didn't afford a lot of elbow room or good lighting.

If the wrapper is from a stock contractor, then they probalby are not stamped. If they came off assembled rifles, they might have the acceptance stamp (the big money one) on the left side just forward of the grip.

If they're walnut and in decent condition, hold one for me please! A good condition stock (not many dings/gouges) start at about $120 and run up to $300+ if cartouched depending on mfgr.

OK, I picked up a couple of the stocks over Labor Day weekend. I need to take the pics and get them posted but here is what casual observation found.

There is a circle with an R or P in the middle of it stamped? or printed? right behind where the magazine box is cut out of the stock. I will get pics up by next week but more information would be helpful.

Thanks,
