I happened upon a 6946 (used) just over a year ago. I really like this pistol. Over 1K rounds that I've put through it have been accurate, jam free, and easily controlable and concealable. The co-worker I acquired it through got it from another co-worker who is now jonesing for it back. He is offering his used, but almost new in box Glock 23, 2nd Generation, plus 3 13 round mags for my 6946 and $75. Understand this is a guy who has a vault of handguns compared to my modest possessions and knows there is somewhat of a $ imbalance, but everytime I see him he says,"Boy, that 6946 sure was accurate...let me know if you ever want to get rid of it."

I think I know what i would do, but what would you do? :)

IMO, the G19/23/32 pistols are the BEST of the Glock line.

I'm not sure of the value of your pistol, but I'd go for it. :D

The guy has a lot of handguns, and yet he still wants your 6946? That tells you all you need to know.

The Glock is certainly worth more on paper, but it sounds like you really enjoy your 6946 (plus it's practical). In my experience, you always regret trading/selling a gun that you like.

I think your particular S&W is not in production anymore while Glock 23's are. Save your money and get a Glock later if you must. While I do not really care for Glocks, I do like the 2nd gen ones better, I feel they look better than the newer ones.

The Glock is lighter but I think is more bulkier than your 9mm. I have a Glock 22 and 27, 27 is a handful with many loads, Glock 23 should be better but you may want to test fire one first to see if a polymer framed 40SW somewhat compact pistol is really to your liking compared to the 9mm you are used to.

I think you will find the Glock to be just as "accurate, jam free, and easily controlable and concealable" as the Smith.
That said, for a gun that gets mostly range use, it's a lot cheaper to feed a 9 than it is a 40.

I'm not a 40 fan...learned that w/ my G23, Para, USPc 40 & Beretta 96. That said, I'd keep the Smith since you already like it and if you really need/want a Glock, get the 19 instead ;)

Thanks for the replies. I'm keeping my 6946. I swore the last time I traded a good shooting pistol I liked for another one I wouldn't do it again. I was tempted to do so knowing the qualities of a Glock (I've owned 3) but I committed myself to mastering the 6946. It fits my hand well, accurate, has cycled reliably with everything I've put in it and is a dream to carry concealed. I steered my friend to KY Imports for another 6946. I'm tempted to buy another one myself, if for nothing else than a parts gun should I need it. Thanks again, Mike

If you really like it, keep it. You can get Glocks all day long.
