Tommy Franks Briefing Room

Watching the news this morning, they said that the briefing room built especially for today's newsbriefing by Gen Franks cost $1.5 million and they had a Hollywood set designer come in to design/build it, a bit extravagant.
Now, I don't mind spending $1.4 million on a Tomahawk Cruise missle to destoy the enemy, but why do they have to spend $1.5 million of my tax dollars to talk about the enemy???:cuss: It reminded me of Cesear, in all of his grandiose trappings, speaking to the Roman forum.:fire:

Could be a new room, but I hardly doubt it was built just for this conference.
Although the press would never say it if it wasn't true.

Chage "about" to "to" and it makes all kinds of sense. News is merely a constantly evolving form of entertainment. Its delivery has to conform accepted standards. Like it or not, media representatives and reporters wield significant power. One way to deal with their power is to communicate with them in a form or fashion with which they are familar.
Besides, I think the room will be used for a long time for a variety of uses. It will be used long after hostilities cease.
