Why I lurv Tennessee...

Went to lunch with Lendringser today before we both headed to the local gun show. (Blackened steak quesadilla and Sierra Nevada Pale Ale; yum!)
Pulled out of the restaurant parking lot and there, on the corner in front of the mall were ten college students with the usual "No Blood For Oil!" and "Stop The War In Iraq!" signs.
Felt bitter.
The light turned green.
Turned left to get on the freeway, and there, fifty yards down the road from the anti-American demonstrators were...
...about 100-150 people with big ol' American flags, USMC, Army, Navy, and Air Force flags, and "Free Iraq!", "Down With Saddam!" and "Support Our Troops!" signs.
This is why I don't live in Berkeley. (Well, this, and the dumb gun laws...) :D

Maybe its time to move to Tennessee.
If I had a nickel for every "No war on Iraq" bumper sticker I saw
on the sheeples Volvo station wagons, it would probably pay
for the move!:D

At the local protest on Thursday, we had a truckload of guys driving by repeatedly with US Flags flying and expressing their free speech to the protestors via a megaphone. :D
It does a heart good.

I-5 corridor from Los Angeles to Seattle is just a target rich environment.
Have to look at things a bit more positive.

Oh man -- that cracked me up. I was thinking the same thing on Friday. I was on the road for work and started keeping track because EVERY vehicle I saw that had a "no war" sticker on it was either a Volvo, mini-van, or VW bus (actually there was one Prius, or whatever the name of that hybrid Toyota is).

Man, I would pay big bucks to have you guys all pile into my living room here in liberal capital of the world (Palo Alto, CA) and have a 'debate' with my roomates.

Sven, buddy.. if you can't leave the state, surely you can at least find roomies of the same species? Sane folks aren't that hard to find, eh?

Tamara, I may have too many irons in the fire, but I thought you were against this war?

I decided some weeks back to give war a chance.
Is it the best of all possible outcomes? Well, no, but it's pretty far from the worst, too.

MORE FROM TENNESSEE:
I went to a Support the Troops rally yesterday (Memphis area).
There were about 6,000 people there.
The antis had a protest in another area of the city. They had 500 show.

Maybe I should post a thread here on THR, to try to find some like-minded folks.
Fact is, I live in a two million dollar home with beautiful hardwood everywhere (floors, walls, ceiling) and share no walls with my roomates... plus, rent is $750, really cheap for this neck of the woods.
Will be in TN at this time next week, maybe I'll get 'hooked'.

'Course a $2M home in Palo Alto is about $250K in the rest of the world.

Sven- if you don't get hooked on TN there is definately something wrong with you.
Tamara-- I enjoyed meeting you at the gun show.:)

Those are the people that deserve the old finger salute.:fire:
My tolerance for THOSE protestors is at zero.
I live near Philadelphia:rolleyes:
If it wasn't for the protests in Philadelphia I would be able to brag about how great my State is.:banghead:

Likewise.
'Twas a good show for THR member-spotting.
Seen about were: Bainx, Felonious Monk, lendringser, Pward, and hso (didn't see buzz_knox, and rennaissancemann is off defending America's skies). Last weekend at the Nashville gun show I got to hang with cslinger, sheslinger, Zander, Oleg Volk, and runt_of_the_litter.
Sven, you're gonna love your visit to the Volunteer State. :D

"Give war a chance" I think I'm gonna go make up my own little sign.
Never have been war hungry and voted for W. on one issue only, but I like where things have gone since 9/11. He doesn't have all the answers, but at least shows leadership which is more than I can say for the last embarrassing excuse for a boss I had.
In a rare upset, my area has Tennessee beat for once. We claim 81,000 military stationed here from all four branches plus the coasties. As such, I haven't seen a single war protestor. Heck, PETA down the street has even been quiet. The best we can manage is the annoying little twidgets who complain about jet noise after they built their condos around pre-existing Navy airfields.

Any of you TN residents TFA members?
BamBam

TFA member here (as Mitch knows)
Also, TN has the highest percent of CCW holders in the nation
Also, I went to a Support our Troops Rally yesterday. It drew 6,000 supporters. The anti rally drew about 400!

Even in Seattle, there seem to be at least as many "Support the Troops" types at any protests that I have seen or heard about in Seattle, and even when there is a solitary person with a "Strength, Valor, Victory" sign (at the intersection near home this AM) that person gets a much better reaction than any of the idiots who would rather let Saddam continue in peace than actually do something.
I have also noticed that the "No War" folks use the same level of reasoning to justify themselves as they do when they are bleating about unilateral personal disarmament, i.e., none. "This is a free country and we have the right to exress our opinions too." No one said you didn't, cupcake, they just said you're an idiot...
P.S.: Does Tennesee recognize any other state's permits? Gonna be visiting the folks this summer... :D

D.W.Drang,
Tennessee has reciprocity with:
Arkansas
Kentucky
South Carolina
Virginia
Mississippi
Florida
Georgia
Louisiana
Texas
Maybe more by now?
I will say that If you have a CCW from any state, it is unlikely you will have trouble in the Memphis area. This IS NOT legal advice, just what I've been told by City and County LEOs.

I usually get to the show early. I was there at 9:45-11:00, and then came back for a couple of minutes after lunch.
