45 ACP load question

Hi guys,
I'm looking for a powder that fills the case to the point where a double would overflow (or be blatantly apparent).
Looks like two powders that seem to get good reviews are HS-6 and AA#7
Any of you have experience with either of these or another that gives good performance and hopefully burns relatively clean ?
Ramshot Enforcer published data seems to fit the bill, but I have not found any first hand accounts of using it in 45 ACP.
I've looked at data for Blue Dot, but it gets mixed reviews. Power Pistol works pretty well too, just hoping to fill the case a little more.
I will be loading 230MG ball seated to 1.260 OAL
Thanks in advance for the feedback

Search for IMR/Hodgdon Trail Boss and see if it's being used in acp's. It's a very fluffy powder desigend for just what you want.I'ts new and hard to find in some areas. Also a bit spendy, about 12 bucks for 9 oz. I"m hoping to try it soon and feel it's worth the price just from reports I've been reading.

i've been doing a lot of work w/ power pistol recently - just started loading for the 45... i haven't yet tested if a double will over flow the case, but i'm pretty sure it will.

I just ran a test with 6 grains of Unique which is my standard load to push a 230 gr FMJ
Nope, it didn't overflow.

No published data from IMR but here is a THR member who tried Trail Boss in a 45 ACP:

I've had excellent results using AA#5 and will also be VERY obvious to see a double charge with it - if it doesn't overflow it the case, it would be real close to doing so.

I, too, like AA#5. My load of choice is 8gr of powder for a 230gr bullet. I was steered away from AA#7 by reloaders who were more experienced than myself.
I don't think a double charge of AA#5 will overflow the case, but I'm sure it would make seating enough of a problem for one to check.
I check EVERY case for powder, and the quick glance doesn't take much more time (if any). If it doesn't look right, I pull it out of the turret and weigh it. 99.99999% of the time it is dead on. In some cases it might be a smidge heavy or light. I am not a volume reloader, but (knock on wood) a safe reloader. And most of my stuff is more accurate than I will ever be.
It might take a little more time, but I enjoy reloading and shooting. The safer I do the former, the more I will be able to do the latter.
My advice would be to not worry about the volume of the powder (in this particular case) as much as the quality of the load. Do a search, check your loadbooks, and find a powder you think you might like. Roll some loads, do some tests, and then decide if you want to continue with that powder.

while i was loading tonight i checked on the power pistol double charge. i load 8.1 grains and a double charge filled it almost to the top - so a double is quite obvious, and it would take some doing to get a bullet seated on that.

for Accurate #5. I'm happy with it for .45 185, 200, and 230 grain loads, and also for .40.

Another vote for AA#5. 8.2gr under a 230gr FMJ is what I use. Fills up about half the case so even if a double charge didn't overflow like another poster said it would cause seating problems with a 230gr bullet.
AA#7 for .45ACP? Hmmm... that's one of those powders that's getting up there for the magnum charges. It's no H110 or AA#9 but it's getting close. If you try it in .45ACP or if anyone else has experience with it in .45ACP post your results here. I, for one, would be interested in hearing how it worked.

So far I ve worked on developing loads using Red Dot and Unique. It is very easy to tell if you double charged with Unique and still pretty obvious with a double of red dot.

Thanks for the info guys.
I am helping a new shooting buddy get started with reloading. He has read everything he can find in print, bought several videos and d/l'ed every how to guide he has found available on the 'net.
He is convinced the safest way to start out is with a powder that is bulky enough to be easily noticed if he drops a double.
I don't disagree with this, but have stressed even a bulky powder is no substitute for careful observation and double checking everything. He is in the stage of getting his routine set.
So far, he seems to be doing very well.
AA #5 looks good, offers a wide range of calibers, and isn't too slow. I have been using TG so long I almost don't have any other powder suitable for a decent mid range load.
I am going to load up a small batch with (for) him tomorrow to see how they work out.
He has a SDB on the way from Dillon, a load of bullets and primers and I am going to give him an initial stash of brass to get going.
Thanks again for the feedback, once again, the THR crew comes thru ;)

I can also jump on the AA#5 bandwagon. This was the first powder I used not only for .45, but also for reloading period. It has proved to be accurate, to meter well, and to burn cleanly.
The only reason i use anything else (Clays) is because I wanted a lighter practice load to shoot thru my alloy-framed 1911 and to use for introducing new shooters to .45.
