Please don't re-post it as a link... everyone needs to copy-and-paste to avoid giving a referrer back to an evil pro-rights site.

Wow! As of right now, 13:25 Eastern, a massive majority believe that gun manufactures deserve to at least some protection from lawsuits. Wonder how long this poll will stay up?

The Fox News (Fox News!) poll shows incredible bias in its wording:

Are you in favor of a law protecting gun manufacturers from lawsuits?
Yes
No
I have guns, but don't think manufacturers should get special treatment

Implies that the bill is "special treatment" instead of basic fairness.
They should get some, not complete protection from liability

Implies that the bill gives omplete protection from liability. Of course, it does not.

It's nice that we're winning, but sheesh, if this is how a conservative news organization writes a poll, Lord help us!

Matt:

The problem is that many/most polls are of the "when did you stop beating your wife?" variety, which leads to about any interpretation the poll-takers want to slant it to, and the results are taken as scientifically accurate. :cuss:

('Course, you're correct, too.)

Ever watch "Family Feud"? The "correct" answer to the questions is the one that a previous audience selected. Put a bunch of Kluxers in the audience, ask 'em about aid to Jesse Jackson, and watch what happens....

And you don't have to be that blatant - the media wouldn't notice if the result fit their agenda.

I always hate questions, too, where the correct answer is not one of the possibles: "Do you walk to work or take your lunch?" being a silly version.

It also appears that the poll was trying to deal with the "total immunity" canard that the anti's have been proliferating. That's not what the bill says, but.... It seems that "we" missed that.

The correct answer, of course, is that the manufacturers should be immune to lawsuits that aren't based on a manufacturing defect. I suppose one could also discuss sales to invalid purchasers, but only at the initial sales level. Oddly, this is the same level of protection that most manufacturers enjoy for other products right now, including cars, knives, and baseball bats.

The correct answer is probably "some liability"....

(No flames, guys....)
