I'm looking for my Bonus check gun but my eyes are starting to cross from looking at options. :banghead: Here's what I'm envisioning:

Commander length 4.25 - 4.0
Bushingless barrell
Officers frame (not required) :scrutiny:
Bobtailed
Semi Custom to Custom

Does anyone make this or should I look for a base gun and have it worked over by a good 'smith?

Wilson Professional with a bobtail job?
Ed Brown with a Bushingless barrel?
Would Pistol Dynamics do a bobtail on one of their guns?

I'm thinking about $2,000 to $2,500 maybe a little more.

I need ideas or maybe somebody has one like this.

Dan Wesson (now owned by CZ, of course) make some very nice bobtail models in both 10mm and 45, all 4.25 I believe. The few I've seen in person were fit and finished very nicely. But since the CZ merger, I have noticed their prices have jumped up quite a bit. Still you should be able to find one under $1000. They do use a bushing set up for the barrel, but I think you'll like what you see. Good luck.

Kimber CDP Pro or Tactical Pro (full grip, 4")
I think they have an officer's sized version of both too.

Oh Crap - just saw your Bobtail requirement.

Then again, the base gun is only about half your budget. I'm sure someone reliable could bob the tail for a reasonable amount and still leave you far enough under-budget to buy some spare mags or flowers for the missus.
