I'd prefer Fox News, but don't have access to a TV right now.
Let's all wish our troops good luck.

It looks like A single Iraqi with an AK is going up against two Abrams. Live on TV, a battle taking place half way around the world. This is bizarre.

Tailwind CNN is not welcome in my home.
Fox News has been covering the firefight in Umm Qasr from the git go with live video and competent commentary.

Sorry 'bout that. :(
It must be really cruddy to live in Commie Territory, and I'm sure the Communist News Network, sometimes known as the Clinton News Network, is favored over Fox News by the California Commissars who administer what you can see on your own private (for now) TV set.

It has to do with the fact that I live in a smaller town in a small area and our particular cable company has sucked real bad ever since I moved here a few years ago. We get 39 channels with basic cable:rolleyes:
Practically everywhere else (especially the big "commie" areas) get lots of choice and channels.

I do not mean to flame anyone here, but don't you all have something better to do than drool over warfare? It ain't a video game. To me, war should be a private affair that is dealt with on the battlefield by the people fighting it. We didn't have all these war protestors until about the Vietnam era. Why, you ask? The crappy media, that's why! Let those men finish it and they'll fill us in on all the juicy details later. Just my $.02.

Well, you do your thing and we'll do ours.
I watch Fox's war coverage every minute I'm awake, and it's on the radio while I'm at work.
Watching our fine fighting machine re-invent modern warfare in real time on the tube is something I don't plan to miss.

Since the embedded media was the brainchild of someone at the Pentagon, I don't have a problem with it. There has been a lot of dissent and distrust of U.S. motives world-wide and allowing the world to virtually look over our shoulder while we conduct the war is a good thing, with due consideration to preserving tactical surprise.
From what I've seen (primarily Fox News, occasionally MSNBC) our soldiers and Marines have been shown in an outstanding manner. Ollie North won't let the Marines look bad, but he isn't the only prior military type among the journalists. They had a discussion with a former Marine aviator, now journalist with the (IIRC) 3rd ID about how he got that assignment. Apparently he was low man and didn't get a choice. Regardless, these guys are casting our troops in a good light and factually reporting the war as it progresses.
For the Navy to allow journalists to observe the SEALS taking the offshore rigs in real-time is unprecedented to my recollection. For them to be able to report the fact that it came off without a shot fired was huge from a PR standpoint. The same can be said about the entire battle on the El Faw peninsula. British Commandos and U.S. Marines did an outstanding job. Sure, some Iraqi's torched a few wells but the majority is intact. Their actions to save Iraq's oil industry is all documented first-hand.
At this point it's gone fairly quickly and with few casualties. IMO, it's going to get intense once we make contact with the larger Republican Guard units, but that will be documented first-hand also. I wouldn't want to speculate on what will happen in Baghdad -- big city, streeet fighting would be ugly and could drag out quite a while. OTOH, once we're there on the outskirts, someone within could end it without a major battle. Embedded journalists will be there to document and I think world opinion will look favorably on the outcome -- except for France, Chirac will never accept what we will have accomplished even after we leave. But it will all be on video for the world to see, something the French would never have considered.

You've got that right, Gabe!
All this new stuff simply astounds me! Our stuff during my time in the Vietnam War was all BC (Before Computers) but it might as well have been Stone Age compared to what we have now!
The world should be exceedingly grateful that these gizmos are now only in the possession of the U.S., and they should greatly fear such technology ever getting in the hands of a despot like Saddam or a nation that has designs on its neighbors.

It appears that a corollary to the "don't bring a knife to a gun fight" rule is, "don't bring an AK-47 to a tank battle".

I was watching that battle for quite a while last night too. Right when Fox first turned it on, before the tanks showed up. They showed the M60 gunner on the far right fire a few bursts towards the building, but it looked like the cameraman wasn't sure where the Iraqis where. There were a few times where i thought i could see someone running out in the distance.
It was great to see the M1A's come out and play though. They were letting loose with their .50 and .30 machineguns, tearing up the hillside, the caught a truck on fire in front of the building, then all of a sudden, a big boom, and part of the building explodes when the M1A used it main gun.
Very nice to see. The Sky news corrospondents did a great job of reporting while still staying out of the way.

Get a Direct TV service and their dish. There are deals such as free or nearly free system and installation available. It will cost about $35.00 a month. There you have the choice of Fox News (numero uno), The Commy News Network, BBC, and PMS-NBC. Lots of other good channels also, lots of crap channels too.

I would think that I need to make you a reeeal happy camper by making you aware that the factory which makes the high precision magnets which make these fancy gadgets work is being shutdown and moved to Red China for the benefit of the PLA.
Golly, Gee, we will have to ask the PLA for permission to use our weapons in the future or we won't get anymore. Courtesy, of those great Captalist(?) on Wall Street!

Sounds like the wailing and moaning about letting China buy the high precision ball bearing grinders during the '70s. The point was that China could then make the high precision gyros needed to drop nuclear warhead MIRVs all over the U.S. :uhoh:

Call me a jackass but I am really digging all this live footage stuff. Mind blowing footage, no commercials, live 24/7 coverage. That's what I'm talking about... Fox News rules. (wonder how long they'll keep up the no commercials thing? Been doing since it all started...)

There are probably forty-eleven threads identical to this one already in L&P, but I'm going to move this one over there anyway. That's where war threads go.
