It comes into my possession on Tuesday (which happens to be my birthday). Recommendations for carry ammo would be appreciated.

The Glock bug bit me a couple weeks ago; I'm now the proud owner of a 19 myself. Mine is loaded with 124 gr Federal Hydrashoks though.

Shoot everything you can get your hands on, and go with what you feel comfortable with, and are consistant with. I started with Cor-Bon 185gr. JHP through my PT-145, because of their reputation, and success I have had in the past with them. I later learned at the range when I ran out of ammo, that PMC 185 gr. actually group a little better through the gun. It may cost a lot at first, but wouldn't you rather trust you and your family's lives to something you know you are accurate with, than trust it to what someone else likes? It all comes down to a lot of practice (none of us mind practicing).

I like the Speer 124g +P Gold Dots but they are hard to get around my parts. I also like the 115g Win Silvertips. My favorite round is the Federal Hydra Shock PD 135g. It expands well and has low recoil. The Win 147g SXT is good as well. It is more of a penetrator and does not expand as much.

As far as plinking and target practive, S&B 115g is good stuff, cheap, and of course there is the Win white box, albeit dirty.

Remember, if you are new to Glocks do not shoot lead bullets through them. It fouls the polygon rifling which could result in a kaboom caused by a stuck bullet. Only FMJs and JHPs are allowed in Glocks.

Just about any of the premium hollowpoints in the 124gr range made the major makers are going to perform satifactorily in an anti-personnel role. You should buy a variety of ammo and see which you and your gun shoot the best and go with it. When you practice, try to use practice ammo from the same maker as your carry ammo as they are loaded to same specs (ie Federal Hydra-Shoks for carry, American Eagle for practice). Then on occassion rotate your carry ammo out with a practice session and replace it with new. Once a year should be enough.

Cor-Bon 115 grain +P JHPs shoot great out of my G19, but so do the 124 grain +P Speer Gold Dots. The Gold Dots are probably the better all-around load.

Just my .02,

Check out ammolab.com. He uses a G19 as a test gun for 9mm ammo....you wont find better info..given your question...

My carry choice in the G19 (when I carry it, that is - I prefer to carry a larger caliber unless forced by circumstances to use a 9mm.) is either the Cor-Bon 115gr. +P+ or the Federal 115gr. 9BPLE +P+ load. Either will do over 1,200 fps from the G19's 4" barrel, something that no other JHP 9mm. will do in my testing to date (although I'm informed that both Triton and Pro-Load make a 115gr. JHP that is in the same velocity league - I haven't tested these, though). In this smaller caliber, one needs to get the bullet moving as fast as possible, preferably into .357 Magnum velocity territory, to enhance expansion and impact shock. I've seen (and I mean SEEN - not just read about!) too many "failures-to-stop" with the 9mm. (even using JHP) to be completely comfortable trusting my life to this round, but using one of the two cartridges named above, I reckon that I've maximised my chances.
