I picked up used but like new G17L the other day, You don't see the L model that often and I got a good deal on it with box, one 10rd and one 17rd mag for $450.
I must say it took some time getting use to the way it looks but it’s really grown on me, I can’t wait to se how it shoots.

What purpose does that opening in the slide serve?

Perhaps it avoids too nose-heavy effect? BUT can the compensator equipped G17C share the same slide design? Haven't held either G17L nor a G17C so can't be sure..

I ment this opening could be to preserve same COG as regular G17 thus making no difference between these?

It's done to reduce slide mass & weight to ensure proper slide velocity and function. Glock does it to the G34/35 also, only smaller.

I was looking at the G17L on the Glock website the other day ("the competition model of the G17"). I like your pictures better !
Whats the practical difference between the G17, G17L and G34 if you don't mind me asking ? I carry a G17 at work but was considering whether to buy a G17L or G34 for target practice at the range.

Why would you want to "Extend the Ugliness"? :what: JUST KIDDING - nice! If I was gonna get another Glock, it'd be the 34 or 17L. Yap, the slide material is removed to make it weigh and thus function the same as the slide on the 17.

Dang, L indeed!
How interesting though, the barrel is exposed.
What ya gonan use it for? Do matches or anything? or just a fun accurate pistol?

Cool man, you fixed your typo before someone (like me) asked what good a G19 mag did in a G17:D
I never heard of the 17L until reading this thread. I thought the 34/35 was the longest pistol they made.

Thanks guys
I took it to the range today and it was an awesome shooter, I put 200rds of 115gr WWB through it with out any problems, recoil was soft and smooth and the accuracy was out standing.
I don’t know how much of it’s accuracy is mechanical or just the longer sight radius making it easy to shoot well but it’s definitely one of my best shooters.
