OK, I skipped the H&R M12. By the time I would have gotten it ready to shoot, I was looking at $400+, completely negating the purpose of buying a $225 rifle.

But, I did take some time to stop in Cabelas on the way home, and look at some 452's. Not realizing how cheap they were, I now have a great interest in them.

So, some questions on them.

1) What is the difference between the Training and the Lux models? Just the stock wood?

2) How much accuracy would I lose with the full stock? That thing looks sweet.

3) Where can I find this trigger kit that people keep talking about?

4) What is the going price for the Training model? Wal-Mart and Gander Mountain both list for $229, my dealer and Cabelas for $255. I'd gladly pay my dealer the extra $25, if I know that the going rate is somewhere in that $230-250 range, and that everyone else isn't selling them for $190.

Yep. The Trainer (or Special) is just a Lux with a beech stock. There's also a Basic model which, despite looking similar, has a different and inferior trigger. Don't get that one.

Erik Brook's site. (http://cz452.com/) I got a ghost ring setup from him and I'm quite happy with it.

Whittaker Guns (http://www.whittakerguns.com/) seems to be the cheapest at $210. I've never dealt with them myself but the folks over at Rimfire Central seem to like them. $255 is perhaps a touch high but not outrageous. Shipping and transfer fees would eat up most of the $45 difference.

I have the Training model aka Special and I love it! The accuracy out of the box is wonderful... less than 1/2 in @ 50 yds all day long. The price you were quoted isn't terribly out of line. I got mine at a local gun shop for $240. I'd say 220-250 is the going rate at most places. You won't go wrong with it. It's the best purchase I have made in quite a while and a great value too.

They're great. When I phoned in an order for a $1600 Cooper and she almost sounded like she was apologizing when she told me that because of the cost of the rifle they'd have to charge me $12 to ship it instead of the usual $10.

Just another thumbs up for the 452. My Varmint shoots like no other .22 rifle I have ever shot. It just blows me away. It is the only .22 LR that I have enjoyed shooting and been able to get excellent results at 100 yards.

Most of your questions have been answered . . .to give you a hint on dealer cost: Whittaker's is great, they sell at about $10 over wholesale on most of their 452s. I've gotten an America, Lux, and Style from them, all shipped quickly.


Oh yeah, I don't know about accuracy, but that full stock bumps the wholesale price up to about $320, I'm not sure what retail is, but that probably negates your $225 budget.

They are great guns, and the trigger kits make them even nicer.

Yeah, if I do the $210 plus the $10 shipping and the $30 transfer, I'm right at $250 anyways. Knowing that others are selling that range is what I wanted to know. He'd probably give it to me for GM's price, since they are close enough to be considered competitive, but I told him not to worry. He's gotta make a living, and does a lot more for me than GM does.

Anyway, I know they are great guns. Two of my uncles have them, one Lux and the other American, with Leupold VXI's, and they shoot small, neat 10-shot groups at 50 yards. Gotta go and out score them with irons :D

Full stock was quoted to me at $10 more than the Lux, which was like $330 or $340. I'm probably not gonna spend another $100 for a prettier stock, though, especially looking at some of my other stocks :uhoh: And since I got the full stock 10/22, although it would compliment it pretty well.

Here's a pic of my newly aquired CZ-452 Super BRNO 2500 SAA. I think that any CZ rimfire will be worth every penny. Look around, you'll find good deals on the internet. My local gunstore had a trainer model but, they wouldn't go below 250.00 for it. I picked this one up used for just under 190.00. Other that a few dings on the stock and some places where the bluing is a little worn, it is in really great shape. And best of all, it feels like a rifle unlike the Ruger 10/22 carbine I held at Wal-Mart.

I won a CZ 452 special in our local gun club raffle one year. Best price yet - $10 for the tickets. It is very accurate but I am going to have to improve the trigger. Best thing - it is full size, so practice with it more easily transfers to my other rifles.

If you wait, you can get a 453 in .22lr or .17M2 - it's the 452 with the single set trigger of the 527/550, and some other difference. Nice guns - the looks of the luxe make me drool, so does how it shoots.

I have the 452 Trainer and it is wonderful. Where I live in California they're asking $279 firm and that's not including the sales tax and DROS. Even so I think the price is worth it.

Another gun which is worth looking at, even if you decide not to buy is the Baikal Bi-Athalon trainer. The folks at RimfireCentral seem consistant in their praise. I have one on my wish list.

A "set trigger" is a trigger when normally it works as a normal trigger, 4-6lb pull but a little of spongy feeling. However, when you push the trigger forward, the pull changes to be a nice crisp pull less than a lb. It is a nice feature, but I would think it will be more expensive.

I don't think anyone import EAA Biathalon any more. It is a nice rifle, and was not expensive. I wish I got one while it was available.

Ok, so kinda like the double trigger rifles with the trigger that sets the real trigger to a lighter setting, but with only one trigger. Gotcha.

Anyone know what the 453's tun compared to the 452?
