Hey there, quick question for those of you in the know. What differences exist from one 1911 frame to another on the most popular brands of 1911 frames, i.e. Wilson/CMC, Baer, STI, Springfield, Caspian, RRA, etc.
I ask this as I'm a bit surprised to see that my new Wilson CQB has a SIGNIFACANTLY thinner dust cover than my Les Baer SRP. Eyeballing it makes me believe that there is something like 1/2 the material.
In fact, if you rap a knuckle hard against the last inch or so of the dust cover nearest the muzzle you can hear contact between the dust cover and slide.
This is a little disconcerting as my 5 or so years old Baer SRP is built like a tank vs. a Chevy 3/4 ton HD compared to the Wilson. What gives. Are there any other frame makers with such heavy dust covers?
