I painted the front sight on my Glock 17 orange..thus covering up my white dot..I used it last night at IDPA..I did horrible...now I have'nt been using my g17 all summer,so that MAY be it....But I was wondering how much of a difference the sight could make.....anybody else have similar expierences??

Could be that the orange paint made it difficult for you to quickly identify the top of the front sight. If you were shooting in low light, maybe tritium sights would have been a better choice.

It may simply be that your eyes don't pickup the ORANGE as well as other colors. Try a different color.

As far as front sights go, Glocks are low, square and FAT {wide}
If you are habituated to the relatively lg. white dot going to any color on the larger surface could be enough to trick your subconcious, etc.
It's nun of my business, but if yer shootin' IDPA you should consider ditching them cheap OEM plastics and getting Novak's or Heinies. Many of the IDPA guys locally put a thin line of bright or flouresent paint at the very top of the front post and often same, but different color, at bottom of the rear notch, FWIW.
If you use Novak's rear can use Glock front dot. Novak white-dot or HiViz "pipe" sights. Heinie's can use Dawson's "optic" front but a good bit more $ for the combo.
