couple q's

I picked up my first handgun yesterday - GP100 4" SS. The Revolver check list was not only invaluable in my determining if the particular specimen was up to speck; but I gave me the ability to put the negotating ball in my court.

a few q's

Without a ccw licence, how should I transport the gun (I assume it would be unloaded and easy to see/case?) I live in Texas by the way.

I took the grips off (which are my only gripe - they don't fit together very well in the clamshell design) and a little pin fell out. There is a grove in the base of the grips (just in the rubber) where the pin fits, but I don't know if it belongs there. Is it a spare?

Are the ribber Taurus type grips available for the Ruger?

I'd like a good leather holster that fits tight. I've found they run from $50 - $150, and look identical (from internet pictures.) Any comments would be appreciated. (I've never worn one before and I am not sure if I will go strong or cross - probably strong).

I don't know if my trigger is getting better, or my finger is getting stronger; but the surfaces are starting to marry (I've been rocking the trigger and pressing on the hammer). SA is a beautiful 5#.

Until September 1st in the state of Texas you have to keep your gun in the trunk unloaded to transport it.

After 9/1/05 a new law will allow you to keep a loaded gun in your car, concealed, as long as you are going about your lawful business. If a handgun can be seen it will be illegal. Long guns are either carried in the trunk or carried out in the open, unloaded.

The lil pin is to aid in disassembly. It goes through the hammer spring strut after cocking and slowly lowering the hammer with the spring against the pin.
Good choice in guns BTW!

That pin probably came out the bottom of the grip frame of the revolver. It's a guide for the grips.
The Ribber grips are just for a Taurus. They are not made for other models and I know of no other design like them.
No one can really help you with holsters (though many try). You just have to try them as all are a little different and that little difference can mean a lot. You will probably end up like most of us and have a bag full of holsters that you have bought and tried only to find some little thing about it that's just not right.
A 5# SA trigger is not something to be proud of. It should be at least half that.

Maybe I shouldn't guess at SA trigger weight. It's not as light as a rifle (that's been lightened), but not much more. Almost zero creep.
