That said, I also think it was self-inflicted for a payout.

I have killed a good size possum at about 75 yards DRT with a Beeman .22 caiber spring piston airgun so they are definitely powerful enough to put a hurting on varmints and even humans at close range but 200 yards.......come on. It might feel like a bee sting and I doubt it would break through any reasonably substatantial clothing such as denim.

Well, they bandaged him at the scene, so maybe he did get hurt. But if so, I'm not believing it came from the house. He was at the long end of the driveway, I guess near the road. Somebody driving by must have done it if he really did get hurt that bad.
I've know at least 6 people that have had to get bbs dug out from under the skin. They were generally hit within 20 yards or so.
