The most effective AK muzzle brake is the AK-74 version.

The slant brake doesn't seem to offer near the actual reduction levels.

With the AK-74 brake, some people report a significant amount of recoil reduction, although with a much-increased amount of muzzle blast and noise directed back to the shooter.

Another problem is, anyone standing to either side is in real risk of being peppered with powder particles and bullet jacket material.
