Hey, I was watching TBS or USA, i forget which, and saw a commercial for the show "The 4400". Anyway, it starts out with a little girl, and a woman, seemingly helpless in a corner, the little girl is sobbing, and the woman is consoling her.

The little girl says, "I'm scared", and the woman says, "I know hun". Suddenly, the camera flips to a picture of a big blue steel set of doors, with huge amounts of junk piled in front of them, and BAM, a bunch of the stuff falls away from the door.

*now, at this moment, I am thinking, oh geez, another one of those hollywood "poor woman and little girl in trouble, get saved because the bad guy is allergic to chemical A, which is convieniently in her purse" moments*

They flip back to a picture of the woman and the little girl, and the woman says, "dont worry, Ill protect you", as she stands up, and draws a nice lookin .45. At this time, I realized that it is no longer the standard hollywood scene, but more of a "Hellz Yeah!" moment!

Just thought I would share, and see if anyone had actually seen the episode.

Haven't seen the episode (or the commercial), but I do usually watch that show. If it's the characters I think, the woman is an agent with the Dept. of Homeland Security, so she's "authorized" to have a gun.

I usually watch and enjoy The 4400, but in the episode first run on 08/07/05, they've made a technical error which has me really ticked off.

One of the major characters, Jordan Collier, was killed by a sniper a few episodes back. The weapon used was an AR-15 pattern rifle, apparently in .223/5.56mm from the magazines, etc., that could be seen on-screen.

In the 08/07/05 episode, suddenly they're saying that the Collier character was killed with a .50 caliber rifle, and repeating ".50 caliber, .50 caliber, .50 caliber" to the point that it's obvious that the producers/directors/writers are trying to make a political point.

I mean, hey, it took 3 COM shot to bring the Collier character down - that was no .50 caliber!

3 shots with a .50 cal?! Thats un-possible! The brady campaign tolded me that a near miss with a .50 will melt my body, take down a dozen airplanes, and then kill 3 school bus loads of kids!

Oh, and on another, somewhat related note, according to the Brady's website, I can find a .50 cal rifle online for "about $1000". Anyone know anything about this? Is it one of those special sites where you can sell your soul for an iPod/TV/Laptop/.50 cal rifle?

I watch that show, and I find that it's pretty good. The lady in quesiton is a federal agent, and she's already killed somebody this season with that hand cannon. Her male partener, OTOH, is kind of a wuss...

I like the show. When I first saw that scene for the upcoming episode, I got a shiver. Nothing like seeing an attractive woman indicating she will use force to protect her family.

Other than the .50 cal AR-15, it does not have a real positive or negative vibe regarding firearms. Pretty low key.

Maybe the AR was in .50 Beowulf?

(When that episode was on, I was distracted and not paying close attention . . . I thought the assassin's weapon was some sort of H&K? Could easily be wrong. . .)

I thought the assassin's weapon was some sort of H&K?

I think it was a G36. Which makes it pretty unlikely that the assassin would have been able to hit his target at all trying to put a 5.56 bullet through plate glass, especially considering how thick the glass would have to be to support a window that size. But hey, if people from the future can travel through time to abduct other people, a 5.56 bullet can punch through an inch of tempered glass. ;)
