Has anyone ever tried making their own fiberglass stock? I've had some experience laying up fiberglass and have recently been thinking about making my own stock. Some time ago I came across a website selling "how to" books/pamphlets on the subject. Unfortunately I can't seem to find the site anymore. Do any of you know where I can get the book I'm speaking of?

I'd really like to try using some carbon fiber fabric. It has gotten a lot cheaper in the last few years, and isn't much harder to work than fiberglass.

Just looking for a point in the right direction.

Thanks.

You want that 'Carbon Look' right? I would google vacuum bagging and mold making. I fly r/c sailplanes and theres lots of information over on RCGroups about those two subjects. I think the shortest route would be to take a Brown Precision composite stock , clean up the exterior and vacuum bag the carbon over that. If you want to do hollow molded, maybe take a female mold from your existing wood stock and layup carbon and glass inside, wet seam it, and post cure. Theres a lot to this, but once you get the mold made you can play around with the layup. Have you seen that carbon/kevlar weave you can get now, which looks like yellow/black checkerboard?
