Kahr warranty ???

Was looking at some Kahr auto's and was impressed. However, the price tag was really high and a 5 year warranty. What's up with that...only 5 years...then what? Don't the "BIG" name manufactures state lifetime warranty? Seems like a strange way to get knowledgable gunowners to buy the product.

Probably says something on their confidence in their product.

Not really. Does Sig or Glock have a lifetime warranty? Not certain, but IIRC correctly Beretta doesn't either.
S&W does. Taurus does. H&K does. I'm sure there's more.
Kahr used to offer a lifetime warranty. I have 2 I bought during that era. They probably figure a majority of the business doesn't offer lifetime warranties, so why expose themselves needlessly. I suspect that if you have a materials and worksmanship problem 6 years out, they'll probably take care of you just b/c of the good feelings a satisfied customer exudes. Virtually none of the lifetime warranties include normal wear and certainly none say they'll fix your gun if you mess it up due to stupid acts, so I would expect that a majority of the material and workmanship issues will surface well in advance to the warranty expiration.

Southpaw, I think you nailed it.
When I got my SA, I was greatly attracted by the lifetime warranty. Now that I have thought about it, if a firearm can stand up to 5 or so years worth of range trips (at least once monthly) without revealing major defects, it will be fine until you shoot out the barrel or wear it out completely. With electronic devices, if it works for 90 days, it should work fine until it becomes completely obsolete. Guns aren't far from that.
But on the other hand, I can't imagine that a lifetime warranty would expose a company more than a 5 year warranty might. Seems to me that they might just want to claim a lifetime warranty if for no other reason than marketing.

IIRC, Ruger explicitly provides no warranty at all. This gives them some latitude in deciding whether or not a gun is defective or abused, but I've otherwise heard good things about their customer service.
OTOH, I had a Kahr, and it was defective. Sent it in after the 200-round break-in (about two weeks after I got it), and it was a real nightmare. I'll spare the details, but I will simply never deal with or recommend them ever again.
The MK9's a nice gun, but mine just plain broke, and getting help from their customer service people was like pulling teeth. I got the impression they'll only stand behind their product when forced into it, and that doesn't do wonders for my confidence in it.

Kahr just worked on my 12yo secondhand K9 for free. I even got two new magazines out of the deal. Dunno if it solved the problem though. We'll see next week...

And to echo mtnbkr, Kahr worked on my 9 year old secondhand Kahr for free. I was having intermittent feeding problems with one particular brand of hollowpoints (Speer Gold Dot). They installed a new slidestop and trigger assembly, polished the feedramp and chamber, installed new sights, and threw in all new mags.
