I'm a newbie to the shooting world, so please be kind... I would like to purchase a 9MM for range and possibly IDPA shooting events. Between the XD Tactical, Glock 34/35 or USP, WHICH gun is typically more accurate out of the box ?

IMO, all will be similarly accurate.

The biggest variables will be the shooter and the ammo, not the gun.
One may be more accurate with Shooter A, and another with Shooter B.

Try to test them out and get the one that YOU shoot best. Forget about what Billy-Bob thinks is most accurate for him.

Hello Henrod, and welcome to THR.

Chipperman is absolutely right. These are all fine guns, and in the hands that fit them, all are pretty much as accurate as the rest. All three of these have a different grip and fit.

See if you can get the opportunity to rent or try all of them to see what fits you best. At least handle all three. Even with all the good press it gets, and with all the people I know that love them, I knew the moment I picked up a Glock that it wasn't right for me. You may pick one up and fall in love with how it holds and points.

The HK is the most accurate out of the box. Then the XD with the Grock showing a poor third place.

Of course, the REAL target shooters use a tuned 1911 in .45 ACP ..........

*Glock=Fast, Reliable, Not a big fan of the trigger for a carry piece. Would rather have a DA/SA or a SA with a saftey.

*HK=USP to be fair to the above two models. Not quite as fast to shoot as the Glock. Slightly more accurate than the Glock. Long but smooth DA. Short and smooth SA. Like the Saftey and Decocker for carry.

I believe the HK has a slight advantage over the others. But as said earlier, how each feels in your hand is probably the most important part, especially when you are dealing with all high quality guns. Personally, I don't care for the feel and the trigger setup on Glocks either, but you may love it.

Well, they're not the longer version however, I have a USP-40C and a Glock 23 while the wife has a standard size XD-40. I also have a Sig 2340 sigpro we can throw into the mix as well. Shooting them side by side, one after the other using the same lot of ammunition of various makers and styles, I have found that the HK has been taking top accuracy honors followed closely by the Sig. Next has been the Springfield XD-40 with the Glock 23 coming in last.

Sorry for the echo, but it is indeed a purely subjective question. For me it goes HK, Glock, XD. YMWV (Your mileage will vary).

The HK is more gun, but it costs you more as well. As in most things you get what you pay for......They're all really good choices and I wouldn't refuse any of them.....However, I chose HK after quite a bit of research and test firing.

The HK fit me best and is very reliable and accurate. In my experience Glocks are a bit more picky about what you feed them. My HK's will swallow anything I throw at them without hesitation.

I have shot all 3 and IMHO, the HK USP is consistently the nicest most accurate firearm in the bunch you've mentioned....might be why I own 4 of'em ;)

For me, the USP was the most accurate to shoot. Then again, I'm biased for SA. I like the safety features of the USP, again, I'm biased. :D

All three guns are accurate out of the box. All three are excellent guns. All three are guns that you could trust your life with. Sorry I couldn't help much because I'd say get all three. :neener:

Well I think it depends on each gun. I have owned each of the guns you mentioned. All are more accurate than most people. The best goup I have every had came from a Glock 30, 25 yds standing 5 shots could be covered by half dollar. My Wilson's have never shot this good..

I currently own at least one example of the USP, Glock, and XD. I really do not like the heavy trigger pull on the USP. I understand some people like the extra resistance on the first shot, but I carry it cocked and locked to avoid it. I find the single action on the USP to be as good as any "hinged trigger" semi I own. It's actually better than most.

I'm not as fond of the Glock and XD triggers. They aren't as smooth as a single action, and I'm more accurate with my HK as a result. I'm only referring to casual backyard shooting. Taking very deliberate shots, they are all probably the same. I just do a little better with the HK.

I have shot the XD Tactical, the H&K USP Expert and I own and shoot a Glock 34, all the guns are/were in 9mm caliber.

The USP Expert was easily the most accurate pistol of the three.
It was also the most expensive pistol of the three, nearly twice as expensive as the other two pistols at retail.

I always find my H&K P7PSP's to be exceptionally accurate. Not 210 accurate, but certainly better then most routine 1911 accurate.

I've shot all 3. It will come down to what fits your hands better. The best advice is to see if a local range can rent you the guns you're looking at. Shoot all 3 and choose the one that most comfortable. For a new shooter, all 3 should be more accurate than you'll be able to achieve at first. It will take you awile to shoot to your gun's potential.

Depends on what your use to shooting most, I have a few 1911s and Glocks.
Have had other handguns over the years,all shot placement has improved over a period of range vesit.
For example, I can take my 1911 & Glock and shoot out the bottom of a coke can at 25 & 30 yards, while my nephews and brothern law get 4 & 5" groups using my handguns.

Most handguns & rifles is more accurate than the ones shooting them.

I also havent guns used for targets,also one used for combat accuracy.

All are quality products. Even if there are differences in inherent accuracy, ammo and shooter are far more important, as it was pointed out above.

What matters is which one is most accurate in YOUR hand. For example, I am very good with Beretta 84, good with Beretta 92, Ruger P89, and Kimber 1911, but bad with revolvers and Glocks. Reason? Differences in grip, size, shape, weight, balance, and trigger pull. But, there are others, especially LEO's, that are just excellent with those latter. :rolleyes:

I would say the HK is going to be the easiest to shoot well, since it has a much better trigger than the XD and a more natural POA than the Glock. All three are capable of better accuracy than most shooters. The HK is definitely the best made, but the XD and GLock are still very good weapons.

This is based on my experience, which is an XD 9, Glock 22 .40 and a USP .45. I would take the USP hands-down, even at twice the price. That said, I sold my USP stainless 2 yeas ago to buy a LNIB S&W 1006 (I was that broke). IMO, the 1006 (and 4506) shoot much nicer than any plastic gun I have ever fired. They also have adjustable sights.
