Hey all, i was just curious as to how many EDC knives you carry, and what purpose they all serve.

i currently pack my benchmade 550(i think it's 550[3.4" blade, drop point, stainless finish]) only- it's an all purpose knife, but i may start packing my CRKT 2.75" Point Guard along with the Benchmade so as not to scare the sheeple.

I usually have one in my strong-side pocket (Camillus Cuda EDC/BM AFCK/CRKT M-16/13), and two in my 'man purse' (CRKT Mirage, Leaterman). I consider (& use) them primarily as tools, but with PD capability.

I have one that opens boxes, envelopes, cuts stuff, prys stuff, sees duty as make shift screwdriver and cleans my fingernails.

I have another I save for flesh.

Spyderco Worker does most cutting.

Cold Steel XL Voyager Tanto is for emergencies. ;)

SOG Paratool is for really nasty/tough jobs. I can replace the blades if I break one or otherwise really mess it up.

Small Swiss Army knife carried mostly for the scissors, but the blade is handy for small stuff that requires EXTREME sharpness.

I also carry a little Swisstech UtiliKey with a knife blade. Don't use that blade for anything, I carry it for the small philips head screwdriver that's built into it.

Benchmade 10300 Monochrome serrated IWB at 3:00 and Case Russlock in strong side pocket. Also, Buck 110 or some other large lockblade I've collected through the years in each drivers' side map pocket in my vehicles, and Leatherman Micra on keychain. Oh yeah, Victorinox Tinker in briefcase unless I'm travelling thru airports.

I usually have 2 or 3.

Always with me are a Microtech LCC clipped on my right pocket and a Victorinox Super Tinker in my left front pocket. The SAK gets most of the use. I used to only carry the LCC and it got all the use, but it doesn't do much now except for riding around waiting for a time it is needed (PD or when the SAK is dull).

Usually I have a small Victorinox classic on my keys, but often it gets taken off for nail trimming and left in the house :uhoh:

Shrade all purpose bag opener in my front pocket, leatherman on the belt and fixed blade sharp finger in the cab of the truck.

I voted for (1). However, if you include my truck, then it's a little more involved. For normal stuf, I've always got either a Mini-Grip or a Mini-AFCK.

However, in the truck, I've got:

Center console -

Buck Model 110
Leatherman Charge XTi

Behind Rear Seats in small hunting backpack -

Leatherman - One of the original knuckle-cutter types
Randall Model 3

I've also normally got a HI WWII Khukri in the back, which is used for clearing shooting lanes on our hunting lease and splitting firewood when camping.

It's the one I cut the end of my thumb off with about 3 years ago. I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one that rates a knife by how well it removes body parts.

I bought a cheap Tomahawk brand "tactical" knife a few years ago for a all purpose truck tool.
While I was goofing around with it I slipped and cut the tip of my bird finger off, I never really even felt it.
Since then I have always liked the knife for being razor sharp and holding it's edge relatively well

The knife or the end of your thumb?
heh. The end of my thumb grew back, more or less, but it took a loooonnng time. I was in a hurry putting up Christmas decorations one year, SWMBO was quacking at me about something, and I closed the knife (liner lock) quickly and forcefully. After a couple of hours it wouldn't stop bleeding, so she took me to the ER.

We were scheduled to go to Las Vegas the next day. I looked goofy walking around playing slots with a cup of quarters in one hand, and my gauze wrapped thumb sticking up from the other hand.

Considering the Benchmade half-serrated tanto point (don't know the model no.) with the axis lock to replace it.

Love knives, probably more than guns!!

SOG Flash II half serrated. Best knife I have ever had, and it sounds cool as hell when it snicks open.

Other is a Leatherman micra. Small blade that I seldom use, and therefore keep razor sharp.

I've seen a lot of knives, and owned a lot ... CRKT Gerber, etc. No benchmade yet but I get what I want from SOG.

Fiance carries a Flash I and a knuckle knife from SOG.

I usually have two knives on me.

I have a Victorinox Recruit on my keychain, and an OD green BM 551 in my left front pocket.

In the glove compartment of my Taco is a Victorinox Ranger. If you should happen to look under the passenger seat, you would find a SOG Navy Seal 2000 (which is probably duller than a butter knife, :uhoh: ) and a small John Greco hatchet.

I generally carry two. One is a Blackie Collins designed Merko and the other is a small Gerber lock blade that handles opening letters, boxes and cleaning finger nails.

The big knife doesn't scare anybody where I live beause just about everybody has one. Heck even my daughter a fair sized knife when she is not in school. It comes from working on a ranch. She's nearly as lost as I am when she doesn't have it.

Let's see, I've got a Swiss Army knife in my pocket. I don't know the model, it's about the size of a Boy Scout knife. Two blades, screwdriver, bottle opener. I like the toothpick best of all really. I've got another bigger SAK in my "book-bag" that has some extra useless goodies with it. I almost never use it for anything.

I've got a leatherman tool on my belt that has a knife blade, and in the center consol of my Kia, I've got a Bucklite folder that's got a 3? 3 1/2" blade I guess. I don't really remember. Had it for years.

My only belt knife is one I had a fellow named Ben Shelor make for me years ago. I paid more for it then than I did for most of the guns I've ever owned. It's a good knife, but I hardly ever carry it anymore. I'll have to take a picture of it one of these days.

I usually have just one on my person, either a "waved" Spyderco Gunting in a custom sheath or a jacket pocket, a Jeff Hall Arch Ally or a Shivworks Clinch Pick, depending on where I'm going and what I'm wearing. If I'm travelling out of state I switch to a Spyderco Native because it's more replaceable than my other knives and probably legal in most places.

I also keep an SAK in each of my backpacks, briefcases, messenger bags and at my desk at work, so that I always have a small utility folder available.

I always have at least two:

Bigger folding knife is always a BM 806D2 Axis AFCK when on dry land. Near the beach or on the water, a Spyderco Pacific Salt takes its place.

One of the above is always coupled with a SAK Tinkerer or a LM Juice S4, which actually handle every cutting task except cardboard, rope, or self defense.

Always have a folder and a gerber multi tool on me. Most of the time at work its a benchmade 806D2, great slicer, sharpens easily, and its a nice and slim carry peice. I also figure other than being kind of expensive its not too hard to replace.
When I'm not working I'll switch out the benchmade for one of my homemade folders. The last one is actually built heavier than the benchmade, but I don't want to scratch it up too bad or take a chance on it not coming back in one peice when somebody wants to borrow a knife.
Sometimes I carry more than one folder, and more and more now I carry a fixed blade.Especially for work in the winter since I'm usually wearing carharts and have more places to carry it than on my belt.

Anyone else have trouble picking which knife when they get up in the morning? :D

I generally carry only one knife, and that is a Kershaw Vapor, which is of course a Ken Onion knife. I friggin' love this knife! It was 29.95 at wally-world, and I have carried it for probably around 2 years or so now. It does not have assisted opening like some of the other Kershaws, but I can get it open plenty fast without it. I am pretty picky about what knives I will buy and/or carry, and I gotta say over the last few years, Kershaw has really impressed me with thier products and thier prices. In order, since 1990 when I started carrying a knife, I have carried 1 Buck knife, which I ditched in favor of a Spyderco because it had a pocketclip. I then went through about 7 or 8 Spydercos, not because they are bad but because that many either got lost or stolen (I was in the USMC at the time). Then I went back to Buck, and carried the same Buck knife for probably 4 years before it entered never-never land. Moved to CRKT, and while I like and still own the knife, I have found that I am not that big a fan of the tanto tip for everyday use. Bought a small Gerber, which I still carry on occasion, actually, and then this Kershaw. Those are jus pocketknives. In the Field I carry a Buck that I have had since I was a kid, and in the Marines I carried a Kabar and an excellent little Gerber bootknife that I found one day. Gave that one away when I left the USMC, and still sort of regret it.

Always at least one. My current fave EDC is an Old Timer -- XTimer (http://cgi.ebay.com/Schrade-Lockback-X-Timer-Knife-7OTX_W0QQitemZ190000751305QQihZ009QQcategoryZ20271QQcmdZViewItem). The finish is crap, flakes right off when you sharpen it, but the edge holding is just fine and this thing is FLAT so it doesn't ever really leave my pocket.

Sometimes in the scrubs I have that gerber one that's really small and doubles (they say) as a money clip.. just for the total no-profile ride. More useful than you'd think in a care situation.. you'd be surprised at how many people can't tie a gown right (please, please, just tie it like you would your shoelaces..)

For hunting it's a fixed blade. If I'm going somewhere that the knife is all I can hide (NYC public transportation, in the past) the 6'' Ti-Lite comes along. It's certainly big and sharp enough for the job, but nothing else can really be accessed while it's in your pocket.

And when a knife is all you can hide, pair it with your tactical running shoes :)

Glock field knife with Saw back, a Victorinox Swiss Army multi tool, somewhat like a Leatherman.....I think they call it the Swiss Multi tool but the actual name escapes me. A Glock Folding shovel is also back there. Do I count the folding bayonet on the Yugo 59/66 rifle I keep in the trunk? lol ;)

Benchmade osborne and a swiss army. The benchmade cuts and the swiss army fixes stuff.

two.

Why? Well, two reasons:

1. As said above, two is one and one is none.

2. I carry a 'user' strong side and a defensive knife weak side. Weapon retention is so much easier if your opponent is bleeding from a stab through his ribcage. Or neck.

A Buck #110 in leather on my left hip. Comes in handy for opening and cutting "stuff".

Depends.

Benchmade Striker 2 Auto goes where I go, no matter what. Sometimes the Cold Steel Spike rides along, too. I have a P-51 can opener in my wallet (a bigger P-38, basically), and my multi tool usually goes with me and has a couple of blades on it, too.

If I'm going to be crashing around the bush I bring a machete or one-piece short sword.

Old Timer Stockman - clip, sheepsfoot, spey

CRKT M16-13Z

Smith and Wesson HRT2B - Hawkbill Neck Knife

And I can relate to judging a knife by its ability to seperate me from my body parts. I have more than a few I've blooded. I have a nice fixed blade that got ornery one day and tried to remove my left index finger. That would have sucked, because that's my favorite booger hook.

Either my claw point folder 6" (total) or my IX Tanto 14.5". Sometimes both depends on my mood.:)

They are usually backup to my glock so not usually a need for both.

Two. Well, more like one dedicated folder and one multitool that has a knife on it.

At work I carry my issue knife - similar to a victoronix 'soldier', only infinitely older.
Hunting - a dagger in the alpinestar bike boots and a belt knife for knocking off pig legs for dog tucker. each have a minimum 6.5" blade of either drop point, bowie or upswept skinner.
All the time - any folder thats appropriate, most times its a buck 110 or my issue knife.

I make my own hunting blades or buy something that I like and bastardise it to make it 'better' (hopefully). I get a kick out of taking something thats so almost there and making it that much better.

If your wondering why I have a dagger stuffed down a pair of motor cross boots for hunting, well it's like this in OZ(thats where i am) when we hunt we have to cover a lot of territory. in my case on my parents property, it's acase of feral animal eradication - not stalking around for a once in a lifetime trophy. So if I happen to stir up a porker onto some open country I just ride up beside him and hook my left leg into his flank, which locks him into the side of the bike. Then it's just a simple matter of pulling the dagger from your boot and sticking him or tying him up, whatever the situation calls for (gunshots may spook everything in the vicinity). The ferals are used to the sounds of a bike or quad, but not guns.
Cheers
Huge

I just added a Benchmade Morpho 32 to the stable. :D

Not that any of you care. But it changes my knife total, because I keep it around to play with at the office.

I try to have a multi-tool handy every day, so technically there is one blade.
But I always have an actual blade on me at all times.Off work, I usually carry a folder, my favorite being a Timberline Knives pistol grip, a gift from a friend.
The rest of the time, it is always a small fixed-blade: either a Shomer-Tec Titanium Companion

or a Relentless Knives M-2 Talon

Don't even get me started on what I might carry outside of the city limits or if a bug-out situation arises.

Spyderco Police, for me. If I'm worried about blade length, either the Rookie or the Calypso Jr. gets carried.

All plainedge, with stainless handles.

If I need a beater knife for cardboard, carpet, trashbags, etc. the Harpy gets to come along.

Ka-Bar whilst hunting.

Two. I carry a Ka-Bar TDI in my front left pocket and an inexpensive folder in my back pocket for everyday utility.

If you're not familiar with the TDI, check it out. It was designed specifically for handgun retention. Also, if anyone ever grabbed you from behind, it could prove to be quite usefull.

Hello, hso, and thank you for the welcome.
I belive I found THR on Blade Forums, but don't quote me on that, as I have seen this site mentioned elsewhere.

RioShooter,

How easily can you pull your TDI from a front pocket without cutting your pants? Do you have to use a special technique to draw it?

Depends....some days i go to college ALL day and im stuck on campus until late in the evening. (this will be a long reply). Anyways, i use to carry my Cold Steel Ti-Lite, but i wanted something a little smaller. i collect knives-for-use and got myself a CRKT rollock in blue. It's pretty sharp, but small. Most people that eyeball me on campus are big. Since carrying the BIG KNIVES, i.e. my Cold Steel ODA or CRKT Komodo 7 was out of the question, i looked smaller into my collection. SOG Seal Pup? too noticable...S&W $20 double edged boot knife? bad idea....Colt Commander? Nein. This leaves a few other options of something bigger and easy to get to. Left is my CRKT F4, which i find too small. Sometimes i carry my CRKT Falcon. Its bigger, sharp, and combat savvy. Sometimes i sneek about with my CRKT Companion in the sheath tucked inside my leather jacket. its REALLY sharp and just big enough to be used for SHTF stuff. ive got plenty more knives, but this is getting length. oh, btw, am i the only one that finds sharpening knives to be a total pain in the rear?

Just one for me. My favorite carry is an assist opening Kershaw, Ken Onion 1560ST with a half serrated blade.
