Forum weirdness

Yeah, things aren't working quite right. I'm on it.

Basically, the forum's box has been going unresponsive every few weeks, and I've been too busy with the move to give it much attention. Now it's happened two times in the same day, and since my taxes were filed yesterday I've got some time to spare to look into it.

It looks like the ethernet connection is fluttering around the times that the box drops off the 'net, so I'm leaning that way. Hopefully this means my ISP can just move me to a different port; worst-case (assuming the cause is hardware related, which seems clear) is we'd need to bring the machine off-line to put a net network card in it, then reconfigure the card.

I'll post with more info when I get it.

Thanks, Derek.

Would it help your hunting for a cause if I told you one of the apparent symptoms is that the software logs me out every few minutes, whether I'm active or not?

Pax:

No, that sounds like a local cookie-related issue.

I haven't been logged out in months. ;)

Hmmmm. Well, then that problem probably is at my end -- but I've cleared my cookies a couple of times, and the problem kept going.

Weird.

Some users were having that kind of an issue in the past, and Mal came up with a solution that involved (I think) deliberately logging off of THR, then deleting the THR cookie, then logging back in.

Try it, or PM Mal, or do a search (I"m too lazy ;) ). It seems like this was a common complaint a year or so ago...
