My Soon to be Father-In-Law was visiting his Grandmother his weekend when she presented him with a his old Winchester 1906. It was his childhood rifle and his uncle had always told him that it was destroyed in a fire.

It was a huge surprise to him that it was still around. He showed me the gun yesturday. The welds holding the magazine tube to the barrel were busted. His grandfather used a piece of chicken wire to keep the tube from falling. There is rust all over the barrel and reciever. The stock has a large crack in it and the sights look crappy. This rifle has been "To Hell and Back".

So my question is how do I get all the surface rust off this gun. OOOO wool, WD40? I've never encountered that degree of rust on a stainless steel gun (yep proof that stainless will rust :) )

He is bringing it back to me in 2 weeks to have the rifle cleaned and hopefully we get a chance to take it out to the range. If anyone has a manual for this rifle please let me know.

Hope you all enjoyed the story.
