My $.02:

I think the thread was closed a bit prematurely as well.

I also think that perhaps in past threads, I've been over-sensitive as to what people should and should not say on THR.

I think perhaps we are getting a bit over-sensitive in general, and that that is stifling honest discussion and debate. (Which, granted, can get heated, but stays quite civil here on THR)

I honestly think the thread in question here was interesting and intriguing. There were many valid points raised.

It is something I have been pondering lately, and I would like to see it debated amongst the intelligent people here.

how much research have you done, cheygriz, into islam? not the extreme fundamentalist islam, but the true teachings of that religion. on the surface, reading your comments in this thread and in your signature line, tells me that you are ignorant of what the muslim faith is all about. perhaps all you know about it is through the terrorist actions commited by a FEW members of this faith.

it also displays a closedminded outlook on religion as a whole. you may believe that christianity is better than islam, paganism, scientology, etc, but all that constitutes is "faith". a mormon has "faith" that he is in the "correct" religion. so does a catholic. so does a muslim. are you in any position to judge another persons beliefs?

i questioned the closing of a thread last week because the reason given for its closing was "OT". turns out it was closed because it was only designed to be inflammatory.

what about muslims that may be members of THR? what about those who have friends/family that are muslim? are you trying to say that you are morally right because you are a christian and they are not because they follow a belief system that YOU say is "uncivilized"?

islam has been perverted by tyrannical rulers in the middle east the same as christianity has been perverted by tyrannical rulers in europe.

The reasons given for the closing are at the bottom of the thread, along with advice on restarting such a thread -- without -- the "Final Solution for Islam" overtones.

Any discussion of theocricide, religious cleansing, or the Inquisition, part II, will be taken to another forum. Period. Full stop.

Such discussions have not, are not, and will not be welcomed at The High Road.

I do hope that my feelings upon this subject are perfectly clear to all.

Re: Islam
It is indeed a conflict between militant, fundamentalist islam and civilization. However, it is not a conflict between islam as a whole and civilization.

This is, of course, only my opinion, and you are as entitled to your opinion as I am to mine. Regardless, THR is not going to become a venue for tarring all of Islam with the same brush as Osama Bin Laden and the wahabi faction in Saudi Arabia. This has nothing to do with my opinion, and everything to do with the stance of this board. If you disagree with this stance, you are free to discuss your point of view on this issue someplace, anyplace else. It is not welcome here.

As I said before, this topic can be easily re-opened on a new thread as long as it does not turn into an anti-islam-in-general jihad. You want to note that Islam as promulgated in a wahabi madrassa is anti-western, anti-american and anti-civilization? Be my guest. This is different than the original premise of the thread that I shut down.
