I was watching Leno's headlines segment last night. For those that haven't seen it, he has articles with either mistakes, like funny misspelled words, or pieces that are wierd enough to be funny in themselves.

Anyway, one of them was a picture of a mother and her young daughter at some local event. They were smiling because they had just won a 410 shotgun in a drawing, and the gun was also in the picture. I don't recall his exact wording, but it was clear that Leno thought it was pretty repulsive that someone would be happy that they had won a gun.

It struck me how incredibly different we view the same picture. Most folks here would see that as a positive image, while many others view it as sinister. How do we overcome that image with people who are resonable but have never seen anything positive regarding firearms?

Ask Leno if he thought it would be repulsive if she won a motorcycle. ;)

Maybe he saw something that he was missing in his life in the picture, happiness, and decided the best way to remedy the situation was to put down the people who were happy about the little things in their simpler lives.

cracked butt--well said! Unless people actually try shooting for the joy of shooting, they'll never understand why some people actually enjoy firearms :( . Though, could you post a pic of that pic, somehow? I'm kinda curious about this .410.

I can't find the picture on the site. It looked like a single shot but the picture was mainly the mother and daughter. Mom was holding the gun and did not have her finger on the trigger. :)

The headline site seems to have older stuff and is not organized to find a particular piece. Here is another funny gun related item (http://www.nbc.com/nbc/The_Tonight_Show_with_Jay_Leno/headlines/H_2767/15.shtml#headline) that I found looking for the 410. It's more typical of the strange things they have.

By taking a kid shooting, and thereby possibly instilling a lifelong love of useful & fun weapon-tools in him or her. We may not be able to un-brainwash the brainwashed, but we can prevent brainwashing of new young adults, one at a time!
