I feel dirty ... I bought an XD.

Ok,

I had budgeted about 500 for this purchase. The SIG and HK were just going to be to much, even used. The SIG Pro would have worked... but it just felt top heavy to me.

I stopped at my local shop and was perusing all my picks. I had dropped the revolvers because I can always find a revolver. I had pretty much pointed out all semis I liked in .40 and polymer.

I thought about another Steyr M... but wanted something with more acceptance and accesories.

I like the CZ 100, but the trigger is long ... John Homes long.

The walther p99 is nice, but I have the p22. Why buy into the Germans at that level.

It came down to a CZ75 in .40 (steel, but I love CZs) and then out of nowhere came an OD .40 Springfield XD.

I shoot two clips out of a rental, I liked it. Stout recoil but quick second recovery shots. Lefty friendly. It has numerous accessories and quite a following. To be honest I bought it at $450 to punish myself for not buying its original iteration 3 yrs ago, the HS2000 for $259. Also, I wanted to BUY AMERICAN. No more french guns (ohh thats right there are none), The German guns are skating on thin ice, no more Russian since it looks like there arms manufacturers sold weapons to Iraq so they could be used against us and I would have bought Coalition (CZ or S&W) but, I didnt. Good old red, white and blue. This gun better not suck.

I will therefore call this gun "The Dumb Tax Gun".

I hope I keep on liking it.

That is "John Holmes" long by the way.

You didn't try a Glock? Yes I know . . . Austrian.

But beyond that, if you want to buy a semi-auto American, a Ruger or a S&W 9 series are a good way to go.

I own two CZ's. Am I considered a trader? I bought them before the war started.

Hey don't feel bad I just bought a Sig, of course it is an American Sig (P239) though I believe the frame might have been made in Germany.

"I thought about another Steyr M... but wanted something with more acceptance and accesories."

More acceptance, LOL! :) Though it is true.

I seem to like the XD a little more each time I see it. Though I didn't really like the compact version too much. Have fun, and just shower after you are done shooting it, then you won't feel dirty!

I got one not too long ago, paid $235 out the door w/100rnds.
I got it in 9mm, 4", OD frame.

I absolutely love this thing! Shoot it and shoot it! It will soon become your favorite,

And dont worry, you were at least supporting an "American" gun company, so youre okay

CZs are Czech, and Czechs are part of the 'coalition of the willing'. They are even supposed to have troops involved.

axeman g You' re thread could be a carbon copy of what happened to me. I had an itch to add another handgun (number 8) to the collection. I have always hated tupperware guns and swore I would never own one...until that fatefull day I held that first XD. I felt that it was designed just for me. Pointability fits me better than anything I own. After running a wide selection of ammo (about 800+ rounds) through it, it has not had ONE hiccup. You'll love it.

Ok ..so the gun was designed in Croatia (coalition member) but are the pieces still manufactured there? Are the completed in Croatia or in US?

ok... but there was a US flag sticker in the box. That makes me feel better.

Arinvolvo, by the way, I do feel sort of bad from straying from the Steyr. But ... I am italian, and italian men are well known for not being very monogomous.

I do miss the Steyr octogonal sights, I was wondering if anyone new if I could replace the XD sight (the seem a little high and thin) with the Steyr octogonal sights, or could suggest some other sights?

axeman - Your XD will accept Sig sights from the 226 or 228. There is a good XD forum at hs2000. There are some tips there on replacing the sights. Seems if I remember correctly they only come off from left to right but you better check me on that. Anyway a very helpful site.

Someone told me that XD40 mags will fit in the XD9 pistol. Said XD40 mags can be loaded with 15(?) rounds of 9mm. This makes for a very cheap hi-cap mag, and I think it's legal because you haven't tampered with a magazine. The XD40 mag is kept as you bought it, just loaded with smaller bullets.

Anyone try this? Does it really work? I'm interested in buying an XD and was thinking about the 9mm simply because of the cheaper ammo. If I could use 40cal mags for hi-cap 9's, well...

This is true, and works pretty well. I have seen no problems with these mags at the range with my XD9.

"... and I think it's legal because you haven't tampered with a magazine."

Actually, you can tamper with the magazine a little bit. The key is that it must still work in the gun it was designed for (i.e., the XD40).

I just purchased a pair of Ghost Ring Sights from Entrepise. I cant wait till they get here. The only thing about the XD I dont like is the sights.

Yup. Sometimes mine lock back with one more in the mag. Sliiightly crimping the feed lips fixes this.
