My grandfather just had his 90th birthday. Family and friends gathered from the far reaches of the universe to celebrate.

I, of course, had my closest companion (a basic 1911) with me for the trip. A couple of days prior to the actual party, I casually ask my grandfather if he would like to go to the range with me. He says yes! Now, he is no stranger to guns - at 90, he grew up in a time when everyone had rifles, and he even hunted for food from time to time. My mother remembers those days, and some of the meals of squirrels. He even used to have an old M1 (I think that's what he said) obtained via the CMP. Sold it-along with all of his firearms, years ago, long before I was into guns. Sigh...

Anyway, both he & my mother (who is very liberal, but has nothing against guns and had been shooting many times before), came a shootin' with me. My .45 was all we had, and it made me a bit nervous to watch my rather frail looking, - did I mention he was 90yo?, grandfather shoot it. Never the less, he hit the target just fine at 7 yards. He only shot a couple of mags, but he seemed to enjoy it.

After shooting, gramps asked the shop clerk if he had any Wather PPK/s on hand. Seems gramps has been looking at getting one to carry! He knows my father carrys, but I don't think anyone, except my brother and father, know that I carry. They just think I keep it locked up. :) Anyway, back home, he shows me the picture of a PPK he's been looking at for about 3 years. I might just have to suprise him on his my next visit...

Well, that's about it. I know it's not much of a range report, but I wanted to share the experiance that it was really cool to get to share some quality time with my grandfather.

Carry on!

You've got to get that PPK for him if you feel he'd be safe with it. Get the S&W though with the extended beavertail.

Gotta spoil those grandparents while you can, just like they did you.
